METRO’S ROADS RULED BY CYCLISTS FOR THE BGC CYCLE ASIA PHILIPPINES 2015

Filipino riders geared up for thrilling bike action around the roads in Metro Manila last Nov. 21 to 22 for the BGC Cycle Asia Philippines. Close to 2,000 cycling enthusiasts joined the event which featured exciting and challenging categories for children, adults and families. The event, in its third edition this year, is a part of Cycle Asia, a network of premier cycling events across the region that offers participants the rare opportunity to ride on safe closed public roads in major Asian cities. It was brought here in the country by organizer Sunrise Events, Inc. in partnership with Cycle Asia and Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

"We are excited to continue an active year of sports for Sunrise Events, Inc. with our team-up with BGC and our international partner, Cycle Asia, the BGC Cycle Asia Philippines made it possible for Filipino families to participate in sports activities as exercise to promote their health and ensure a wholesome lifestyle," said Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, CEO of Sunrise Events Inc.

Prior to the ride events, the entire family were entertained with a wide range of fun activities in the Cycling & Lifestyle Expo at the Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila, the Official Residence of the BGC CycleAsia Philippines for 2016. The fun cycling action started in the morning of Saturday, November 21 via the kiddie ride categories starting with the 30-minute Junior Challenge ride and followed by The Kid’s Ride and Tricycle Ride categories. This day proved to be a fun bonding activity for parents and kids complete with post-event ride activities such as the bull ride and kiddie inflatables. 

On Sunday, November 22, were the Adult Ride categories. The event was kicked-off by the Ride with Robbie with Australian former PRO cyclist and three-time Tour de France green jersey sprinter’s classification winner Robbie McEwen. It was followed by the 40km Challenge Ride and the 20km Community and Foldies Community Rides. According to Mr. Manuel Blas II, Head of Commercial Operations for Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., “The participation in Cycle Philippines through the years have shown us that cycling is here to stay and that it is going beyond being a hobby and sport where people are more and more using it as an alternative mode of transportation to get around the metro. This insight pushed us to implement more bike racks around the city. Furthermore, it also inspired us to experiment with a bike-sharing program which will be launched in the near future.”

Actress Marian Rivera Dantes finally gave birth to a baby girl on November 23, 2015 at 5:25am in a hospital in Makati thru a normal delivery. Prior to her delivery, DongYan fans gathered for a prayer brigade on November 21. Congrats, new parents, Marian and Dingdong!

Paincake Patrol Launches First EP - Social Constructs

Sharing the belief that a life worth living is defined by a purpose of your own manufacture and not by social consensus, one-man electronic music project Paincake Patrol launches his first-ever EP //Social Constructs on December 5, 2015 at Today x Future in Cubao, Quezon City.

Created in 2011 out of passion for music, Paincake Patrol is the recording project of musician Eeman Bulotano. This experimental solo project is focused on creating alternative electronic and ambient music, reflecting the artist’s experiences and views on existence in general.

“[I want to] make music people can listen to without [them] having to ignore the person standing next to them,” says Eeman whose goal is to provide music that “makes you think, but yet somehow not [distract you] at all.”

Emotions, Experiences and Expression

The idea behind //Social Constructs and Paincake Patrol itself is inspired and widely influenced by the very existence of ambient music as pioneered by Brian Leno during the 1980’s. Usually electronic and instrumental in nature, ambient music aims to create a perfect balance between disappearance and presence. 

Though it has existed for a long time now, ambient music remains relatively unknown to the mainstream crowd as it is seen as "too smart" or "overly deep.” However, Eeman and many other ambient music artists see this type of music as simpler and more relatable compared to any other genre because it provides the chance to be freely interpreted by its listeners. This genre is powered by the experiences and emotions not just by the one who created the music but also by those whom the music is created for. 

Songs from this genre evolve from the mere self-expression of one artist into many different stories weaved by those present in the audience. They are taken and understood in more ways than one – similar to how individuals give meaning to various things and, ultimately, to life.

Existence Defined and Redefined

Music relives one’s memories, and the entire Paincake Patrol project intends to elicit nostalgia while stimulating thought-provoking conversations. With this particular EP, the artist focused on his view of the general meaning of existence and how empty it may seem when viewed only in an objective and logical way.

Each compositions appropriately titled based heavily on how the artist views reality. Combining master beats with ethereal notes, //Social Constructs’ first three tracks aim to reflect the existential angst and loneliness one might experience when he or she has failed to see reason behind life.

Fascinated with weird ambient and dreamy sounds,Eeman has been recording his own music and releasing it on Sound Cloud starting 2010. He has released three LPs from 2011 to 2014. Since then, he has been featured in a few publications, such as Indienationblog and Exposed Vocals. In the Philippine Indie Rock Awards 2015, he was awarded Keyboardist of the Year through his current band, Audio Drive Thru. 

He took the next step early this year by doing live gigs all over the metro. Six short months and several introductions to numerous people later, he is now ready to share his music more widely to the world.

Papa John's Pizza, A fresher way to enjoy pizza!

Our family was looking for some food adventure in the south. While rummaging inside my bag, I found these Papa John's Pizza gc's courtesy of Ms. Louisa The Art of Being a Mom. So we headed Las Piñas where the nearest Papa John's Pizza can be found. It's just in front of SM Southmall, we never had hard time searching for it.

 The place was small, but the ambiance is good. The store is cool enough and comfortable. We had great time waiting for our order because the staff was nice enough and offered us good accommodation.

That time they were offering a meal good for 3 persons worth only P399.00. We ordered Hawaiian Pizza, which is my kids' all-time favorite, Chicken Pesto pasta and iced tea for dine. The regular-sized Hawaiian pizza costs P350.00, if not in promo. The pasta is regularly priced at P190.00 per plate. We saved more than a hundred peso for the meal.

 

We, especially the kids enjoyed the Hawaiian so much because it has generous amount of pineapple and cheese. Tomato paste is so tasteful, not sour nor sweet, you can actually taste real tomatoes. The crust is soft and delicious, proof that it's made fresh and from quality ingredients.

My kids who are spaghetti lovers, just like many other kids; started to like the Chicken Pesto because it's really creamy and delicious. It's a spaghetti pasta with grilled chicken, parsley flakes and parmesan cheese in pesto sauce. The herbs and cheese mixture really tastes very good, which made the serving not enough for 3 persons. You would crave for one or two more plates to satisfy your tastebuds.

We also ordered this Duo Savers consists of 2 family pizzas. We ordered the Island Spice and the Bacon Cheeseburger Surprise for out. Island Spice is a combination of pineapple, cheese and jalapeno slices, drizzled by thousand island sauce. The sauce perfectly compliments the pizza.

The Bacon Cheeseburger Surprise is made with beef, onion, tomato, mozarella cheese and cheese sauce. It has a special dressing so you will experience a pizza and burger in one. I must say that these two kinds of pizzas are innovative pizzas. They are not the usual flavor of pizzas but you will love it from the very first bite.

The Duo Savers is only available for take-out or delivery...

We really had a great time at Papa John's Pizza. Our first time experience will not be the last time, although their branches is far from our place (Laguna.) We'll definitely look for another store once we head over again in the metro and will try to discover more from their menu. They always have exciting offer to look forward to, which makes them more affordable than any other pizza stores, but they never compromise the quality of their products.
