Summer Alaska Power Camps - Alaska's advocacy towards a healthy and active lifestyle

According to the Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s 7th National Nutrition Survey in 2008, at least 16 million Filipinos aged 20 and above, and about 2 out of 10 children are overweight. Under nutrition also remains to be a public health concern affecting nearly 3 out 10 children. Also recently, there have been prevalent issues on change in children’s interests and behaviors brought by fast-changing technological environment.

With these alarming concerns, Alaska Milk Corporation is committed to help provide proper nutrition and promote an active lifestyle. Thus every summer, Alaska gathers basketball, football and volleyball enthusiasts through its Alaska Power Camps.

The summer sports program inspires both girls and boys to engage in sports. Moreover, through basketball, football and volleyball, the child does not only improve his/her talent but also acquire proper skills development and formation of the Power Camp values of discipline, determination, hard work, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Distinguished Philippine sports icons will lead the Alaska Power Camps. First, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legend and Alaska Aces assistant coach Jeffrey Cariaso will lead a team of basketball coaches. Second, former professional football player and currently Alaska Football Power Camp Project Director and Alabang Football School, Makati Football School Director, Tomas Lozano will lead the Alaska Football Power Camp. Lastly, Philippine Super Liga volleyball player and former De La Salle University Lady Spikers star volleyball player, Michele Gumabao, will lead a team of volleyball experts in teaching aspiring young girls in the Alaska Volleyball Power Camp.

Alaska continues to encourage children to go out and play by participating in various Alaska sports programs like Alaska Power Camp.

These unique crystals for chandeliers are wise investments

For me, chandeliers are not just home decorations, they are investments as they serve important purpose inside the house - not just to provide the house with good lighting and nice look but also to give us feeling of comfort.

I came across this site while I was looking for chandelier fixtures ideas. This caught my attention because they offer very unique crystals for chandelier prisms. The prisms look natural and elegant and would definitely redefine the way we decorate our home. I was really fascinated by how well-crafted the prisms are. The designs are state-of-the-art and are product of smart and delicate work. This kind of prisms will not just provide great shining light but with wonderful ambiance at home, as well. The rock crystal chandelier prisms are formed from semi-precious stone found in nature so you can be sure it is of high-quality. Who doesn't want summer? Who is not looking forward to it?

Summer is one of the most-awaited seasons of the year. It's the best time for vacation getaways, recreations and of course, food. And one of them is the all-time favorite - ice cream. Filipinos, both young and adults, love to eat ice cream especially during summer to beat the summer heat.

What can the next President of the Philippines do for the PWD's?

There are around 1.4 million PWD's in the Philippines today. We can't deny the fact that they are very important part of our nation and the economy because they have talents and abilities despite their physical limitations . These PWD'S should be given enough protection and welfare so they can live independently and they can pursue their dreams and aspirations despite their condition . Now, what can the next President of the Philippines do for the PWD's?

I have 3 suggestions in mind;

1. Give them better access to mobility in almost everywhere - malls, parks, streets, workplace, government and private offices - and provide them free use of assistive devices such as wheelchairs and braces in those places.


2. Provide financial aid especially for the PWD bread winners.

3. Give them free and regular training on entrepreneurship and counseling which will be done within the place most accessible from them.

Presidential candidate Mar Roxas has a very interesting platform for the PWD's if ever elected. Being the "Father of BPO Industry" he assures strict implementation of laws providing for friendly workplaces for persons with disabilities (PWDs). He fully recognizes the contribution of PWD's in the society and the economy. He firmly believes that providing them enough support, from the government and the private sector, will help the PWD's maximize their potentials and be competitive. With the platform Mar has for the PWD's,  their workplaces will no longer be confined, thus giving them a better opportunity to provide their family a better life.

What are the responsibilities of the Vice-President of the Philippines?

When I started exercising my right to vote, I thought that the role of a Vice-President of the Philippines may not be as important as that of the President and the law makers. When there is already a President to rule the entire nation and law makers to protect the rights of the Filipino people, what else is left for the Vice-President? Now that the election period is heating up even hotter than the weather nowadays, I started to wonder, what really is the role of the Vice-President?

I have learned that the function of the Vice-President of this country is classified into 5;

1. Executive function - the VP has to ensure that the laws are faithfully executed.

2. Ceremonial function - the VP meets with the representatives of the foreign government. He/she represents the Philippine government in official gatherings and receives foreign dignitaries, ambassadors, foreign investors, and other foreign officials.

3. Advisory function - the VP has an important role in the formulation of policies in the implementation of government programs and projects.

4. Constituency function - the VP consults with local executives, lends support to their programs and extends financial assistance to them.

        5. Administrative function - the VP sees to it that the resources of the Office of the VicePresident are efficiently used to attain the goals and objectives of the office.

A Vice-President definitely has a vital role in nation building, not just a substitute official when the President is out of the country or when the President is no longer fit for the position. Among the VPresidentiables, I find Leni Robredo the most credible among them all. She is a breath of fresh air in the politics and definitely what she wants to offer is purely service. I believe Leni's experience as Representative, Lawyer and social-activist and her being a champion in transparency is enough for her to perform the executive, advisory, constituency and administrative function well if ever elected. Her tenure of office might not be that long but she already proposed, co-authored and passed bills that are essential not only to her constituents but to the majority of the Filipino people. She is the sponsor of the Freedom of Information act, which will strengthen the right of citizens to information held by the government. She has been a strong supporter of the Bangsamoro Basic Law, which is designed to seek peace and development to Mindanao. She is one of the primary authors of the Tax Incentives Transparency bill. She believes that the burden of paying income tax should be put upon those who can afford it. Her extensive experience in the grassroots sets her apart from the other candidates. This is a proof that Leni has the heart for the poor who are in the "laylayan" of our society.

Ceremonial function is just an easy thing for her. She is a smart and decent woman who can face foreign officials with confidence, poise, grace and humbleness. I believe she can impress foreign dignitaries with her different perspective of life and politics.

Her humble beginnings and simple lifestyle are proof that she is not hungry for power, nor seeking authority for her advantage. Her dreams and aspirations are driven by her passion for service. She always tell people to live simply and she practices what she preaches - from being a bus commuter to being a hands-on mother while being a public servant. She has promised to continue the path that leads to the country's economical development so the poor as well, will feel the on-going progress but also accepted the fact the cabinet needs new faces. It's about time to put another honorable woman on one of the top government positions, and yes #LeniIsMyVP!!

Yes, I am one of those million Pinoys who are always looking after the Big Nivea Sale to happen. Since it only happens once in a year, I make sure not to miss it because it really gives me so much savings. You can actually find most of your skincare needs on sale, from 50% off or more; including products for men women and kids. Not only famous stores like SM, Watsons, Puregold, Mercury Drugstore or Robinsons will you find Nivea products on sale but also to those local grocery stores in our respective areas.

I actually compared Nivea products on sale from the different stores in our vicinity, looking for the best deal. I canvassed from SM Savemore, Mercury Drugstore and Puregold. So far, Puregold offers the best sale. I actually got the Nivea White & Repair UV body lotion (250ml) with a free Nivea whitening anti-perspirant (25ml) for Php103.50. The body lotion is regularly priced at Php320.00 while the antiperspirant is around Php50.00. How much savings? That was more than 70%! I also got this Nivea Med Protection for Php46.90, it's actual price was around Php90.00.

I know anything you buy from the Big Nivea Sale is "money well-spent," but I want to shop even wiser so I can get most out of my budget. Since the sale is up until the 18th of April, I will be searching for more great Nivea products bundles on sale from other stores in the next 2 days. I would also love to have a haul of Nivea products for babies like body wash, oil, cream, wipes and lotion.

•     It must be 30-60 seconds in length.
•     Your video can be very simple (e.g. taken against a plain background) and will not be judged      based  on editing and special effects.
•     Upload your video on YouTube or other video sharing sites then copy and paste the link on the field provided on the application form.
