Filipinos love for anything Japanese was once again proven when Hakata Ikkousha, the ramen franchise from Fukuoka, Japan; opened Ikkousha Ramen, its first Metro Manila branch on March 3, 2018. The place was jampacked with customers excited to try this new ramen in town. The store was filled with diners while there were still a lot of people who were waiting for their turn outside of the store. Hakata Ikkousha Manila, the second Ikkousha branch in the Philippines (the first was in Cebu) is located at the Upper Ground Flr. Expansion Wing of the Festival Mall Alabang, Muntinlupa City. They offered buy one get one on all ramen on the day of its grand opening which really became a hit among the people from Muntinlupa and nearby cities.

Aside from the buy one get one treat for the first 300 bowls, two soft opening days, during which 100 bowls of ramen were served daily, were held on the 26th and 27th of February. 

The core of Ikkousha’s menu is the tonkotsu ramen, also known as Hakata ramen, after the place in Fukuoka City known for this ramen style. Its defining characteristic is its tonkotsu broth, which is made by simmering pork bones for many hours. The result is a thick, creamy soup base – almost milky in its consistency and color – that is flavorful as well as rich in collagen. 

Furthermore, the noodles served in Ikkousha branches are produced in Ikkousha’s own noodle factory. Each bowl of ramen is topped with carefully seasoned and tender slices of cha-shu (braised pork). The ramen comes in several varieties: the classic tonkotsu; tonkotsu black, which has mayu (black garlic oil) for a more intense flavor; God Fire, the spicy variant that comes in four spice levels; and shio tonkotsu, which combines tonkotsu and shio (salt) broth for a lighter-bodied soup base.

Hakata Ikkousha will surely continue to delight the palate of the Filipinos and it will further strengthen the influence of Japanese in the local culinary scene because what they serve is authentic Japanese.

After conquering Laoag, ColorManila is all set for their next event in Dagupan and Laguna both on April 8

ColorManila, the country’s number one fun-run organizer, conquered Laoag’s Sand Dunes in Ilocos Norte, with its sold-out CM Paradise Run, which took place last weekend. The event was held in cooperation with Ilocos Norte’s 1st District Senior Board Member Ria Fariñas, who is a known fitness buff.

Prior to the sold-out event, Farinas was quoted as saying, “Thrilled that this is finally happening in Ilocos! Mark your calendars and start training with your family & friends for Colormanila’s Paradise Run at the Laoag Sand Dunes!”

ColorManila VP Justine Cordero says, “This is the first time that we brought ColorManila to Laoag, and we are very happy that this has become successful, we are also thankful to our local government unit partners. We are looking forward to doing more events here in Laoag.”

The CM Paradise Run - Laoag leg, gave the runners an early feel of a summer escape to the beach or to paradise, with the various color stations adorned with palm trees, hammocks and garlands, which only served as a perfect backdrop to their selfies with friends and family.

After the race, thousands of runners got to experience the freshest and newest mixes of the DJ’s at ColorManila’s trademark CM Color Festival, where the color powder was thrown in the air as the participants danced and grooved to the music of DJ’s on stage.

Honestbee: My new favorite grocery delivery app

I frequently shop online but I usually only buy non-perishable items like clothes and beauty products. The prices online are similar to the mall prices, sometimes even cheaper. Also, browsing through catalogues online is less tiring because you don’t need to walk around. It’s like retail therapy without the strenuous work. So when I heard about Honestbee, I was really curious. I found out that they not only are a food delivery app, but also do grocery delivery. As an avid fan of online shopping, of course, I had to try it out for myself!

The app looks simple but is very user-friendly – something that online shoppers will appreciate. Signing up was as easy as 1-2-3. Fill up the account details and you’re ready to go. Entering your address is similar to ride-sharing apps where you have to pin your address, which was a nice touch. When you sign up, you also get a referral link that you could share with your friends and family. This way, you’re not only helping them save 500 pesos, you get 500 pesos off too when they sign up. It’s a win-win situation.

There are a variety of stores to choose from in the app but the one that really caught my attention was their “Deli and International Grocery” section. I know I’m getting my money’s worth whenever I order things that I won’t usually find at the nearest grocery store. Some of the delicacies you’ll find include gourmet cheeses, assorted pastries, and premium cold cuts; all these become accessible to me through Honestbee.ph I don’t regret signing up and I would surely recommend this to everyone I know.

Kwikset Roadshow Manila - Why your choice for locks matter

Consumers want access to all the choices possible. We feel disappointed if we missed out on products that might just be better than the one we've chosen.
