Experience ‘Festivals Around the World’ in BGC Passionfest 2018

Gear up for a weekend of culture and passions in BGC!
On December 1 and 2, Bonifacio Global City will take everyone to the cultural celebrations of the world, and let them discover ways to live out their passions—whether it's arts, culture, food, music, dance, and more in this year’s BGC Passionfest with the theme The World is Here: Festivals Around the World.

The whole stretch of Bonifacio High Street will become more lively and colorful than ever as it recreates the vibe of four global destinations: our very own Philippines, Europe, Asia, and the United States with iconic decors such as banderitas, an Eiffel Tower installation, Chinese lanterns, and US flag-colored buntings. BHS will also host a wide selection of activities for guests to take part in—such as games, workshops, exhibits, and colorful cultural presentations.
With a Passionfest passport in hand, guests can take part in the various treats offered by each block, including a chance to grab some delightfully blended fruit juices from Filipino brand Locally; score fashionable pieces and unique finds at the bazaars of  Urban Pod, Mommy Mundo, and the Embassies of the Czech Republic  and Vietnam, among others; catch exhibits and a book launch, as well as witness loads of performances like a comic pantomime show, and short theatre plays; and even learn how to make loads of arts and crafts from the Katipunan Weekend Market. Meanwhile, guests looking for more action can navigate their way around a giant inflatable set courtesy of Color Manila, take part in bike sessions, or join rounds of fitness classes on kick aero boxing, yoga, and pilates led by Anytime Fitness.

There’s also a BGCitizen parade and concert to watch out for that will surely wow the crowd with performances from young, homegrown musicians such as the soulful acoustic performer Syd Hartha, the funky-energetic IV of Spades and indie folk band The Ransom Collective.
“We are anchoring this year’s BGC Passionfest activities on the festivals around the world because these are great sources of creativity and energy. Through this, we would like to influence others of this vibe, and inspire them to pursue their interests,” said Sean Luarca, BGC’s Marketing and Community Relations Head.
Everyone’s invited at this year’s BGC Passionfest. Visit BGC’s social media pages at https://www.facebook.com/bonifacioglobalcityph/ and https://www.facebook.com/BoniHighStreet/ for more information.

Now Boarding at the Nail Terminal 1 Tagaytay

Tagaytay City, popular holiday town south of Manila is known for its mild climate, beautiful attractions, breathtaking views, and delicious delicacies, fresh fruits, and the famous beef bulalo.

The city has been very popular to tourists both local and international because of the laid-back lifestyle it offers - less traffic, less pollution, fewer toxins, less stress.

Apart from the many attractions, family activities and food choices that can be experienced in the city, a lot of beauty and wellness establishments has also surfaced around Tagaytay. One of those establishments that caught my attention was the Nail Terminal 1, for its unique concept.

Nail Terminal 1 is the very first travel-themed salon in Luzon if not in the whole Philippines. Located in Vista Real Hotel, the salon offers pampering from head to toe. Unlike the many salons in the country that offers very specific services, Nail Terminal 1 chooses to offer nail services, massage, hair makeover, and make-up services.

If you are a first-time customer, you will be surprised that it doesn't look like the boring salon you usually visit for your much-needed me-time. The ambiance was friendly and relaxing, with the hues of blue and yellow interior, and decorations which will make you feel like you are traveling around the world. The total look of the salon is something that the old and young generations will both enjoy, especially their very good services.

For those who have traveled around many places and countries, the salon will surely make them reminisce of those experiences. Everything inside the salon is truly travel-related which will excite and inspire anyone even those who are not fans of salons or mani-pedi and hair make-overs and treatments.

The sofa and chairs were comfy and will make you feel at home. Another unique feature of the salon is the basin that's permanently installed in each station (sofa). That is very innovative for a salon, more convenient and hygienic. The basin looks like a small pool for the foot spa, it has its own shower and drain, too.

The staff were very caring, they will make sure you won't get hurt even a little. The foot massage was one of the best massages I have experienced - it was not just the feet that were massaged but also the muscles below the calf. One thing I observed during the mani and pedi session is that they don't use merthiolate because they want to lessen the amount of chemicals used on the nails. They do use the chemical as per client's request.

Their hair services is another thing to love. I remember it was in 1990's when I last had my hair cut short. Since then, I have always wanted it long because I am afraid that the hair stylist might not that good in trimming. I don't know why I instantly trusted Nail Terminal's senior hair stylist and I immediately said yes when he told me he would cut my hair short and he assured me that it would look good on me.

And yes, they were right! I loved my short hair so much, that I feel younger and more beautiful with it, char!

So if you are near the place or if you are touring around Tagaytay, don't forget to drop by at the Nail Station 1 for a few moments of relaxation. You may bring your friends or the whole family for a better experience. I assure you, you will not feel you're inside a salon that smells like a laboratory, this is one of the few salons that will give you cozy and homey feels.

Alaska Football Cup now on its 23rd Year of Developing Champions

Last November 24, the huge football field of Ayala Country Club in Alabang Muntinlupa City became a venue for a family day hosted and sponsored by Alaska Philippines. The 23rd Alaska Football Cup didn't seem like a tournament because each football team had their loving family in tow as they compete with the other teams.

This year's Alaska Football Cup is composed of 3,800 participants in 260 teams - almost a half smaller than the delegation in 2015 when I first did the AFC coverage with my family. 75% of the players this year came from the provinces and the remaining 25% is from Metro Manila.

Although the number of participating teams had decreased, the passion of the organizers, the hosts, and the players and their family for the sport just keeps on burning.

Thousands of these children athletes ranging in ages from 3 to 16 years old, gather for one of the biggest football festivals in the Philippines to enjoy the games and inspire.

The Alaska Football Cup is a program that aims to inspire children to develop their winnings habits by encouraging them to live a healthy and active lifestyle and develop good values.

One of the participating teams Atletico Diliman Football Club is composed mostly of children as young as 3-years old students from neighboring schools like Marist, Claret, UP Integrated School, and Balara Elementary School.

They just play during weekends at the uneven surface in the middles of the Sunken Garden in UP Diliman.

Atletico Diliman started years ago when former football players organized a weekend get-together so that their children can play the game.

One of their products is 17-year old Franco Villaprudente, who consistently joined the AFC. Some are now football scholars at De La Salle University St. Tomas and in US schools.

Cheering on at the sidelines but upfront with their encouragement at an event of such magnitude, are the ever-supportive parents, especially mothers.

Last year, nearly 4,000 participants and 338 clubs and school teams saw action in the 2-day event that played a total of 16 age categories in the boys and girls divisions, as well as in the men's and women's open in a 7-side tournament.

Despite the lack of facilities, stadiums, parks, and fields for football; the founder Mr. Tomas Lozano is very grateful that there's a big company like Alaska that supports Filipino kids.

Nothing significant happening for this year's 2-day event of AFC according to Ms. Dianne Guarte, Associate Brand Manager of Alaska Milk Corp. They are just focused on the kids who grew up playing football in AFC and they want to continue the program which is one of the biggest football cups in the country and to inspire more kids to just play football and play the sport.

King Sue Premium Christmas Hams - Taste Fit for Royalty

Chirstmas is more special in the Philippines - if not the most. Christmas in the country is more than tradition—it’s so ingrained in every Filipino’s hearts that as soon as September arrives, well-loved Christmas songs start to be played and some even begin to put up small decorations that reflect the yuletide season.

Visitors from other countries could only wonder in amazement how locals are able to allot the entire latter third part of the calendar year to celebrating Christmas.

An important part of that, of course, are the gatherings with family and friends. And for this particular season, the highlight will always be the Christmas ham, a tradition King Sue Ham & Sausage Co. Inc. understands very well.

Its founder, Mr. Cu Un Kay, came to Manila from China as a 12-year-old on board a vessel. Even at a young age, he knew the importance of hard work and was employed as a cook by his uncle who owned a cold storage facility in Echague. There, he met a German who later taught him to manufacture hams and cold cuts.

Using this knowledge, Mr. Cu Un Kay started his own business and sought to perfect the meat production process using only aluminum cauldron over three adobe stones. He concentrated on producing hams, especially the Bone-in-Chinese Ham, which his business became known for.

At the end of World War II, the brand “King Sue” was born. “KING”, the family surname, implies royalty and enormity while “SUE”, means small in Fookien. The two names, while seemingly contradicting, actually tells the story of how Mr. Cu Un Kay may have had modest beginnings, but his dreams and ambition are big.

The same could be said of Christmas gatherings in the Philippines. No matter how big or small, Filipino gatherings have a way of making one feel like royalty and King Sue exists to provide Premium Quality processed meats that deliver a taste fit for a king, a queen, a prince or even a princess.

King Sue has a wide variety of Premium Christmas Hams that are sure to suit every palate, budget, and preference from the popular Chinese Ham Bone-In, Pina Ham, Sweet Ham, Hawaiian Ham, to its Pear-Shaped Ham. “There’s a ham for everyone regardless of age, gender, and lifestlye. It can also be enjoyed not just during the Christmas season but all year round as well,” says Romana Go, Marketing Manager for King Sue.

It is no surprise then that Filipinos who wish to make a lasting impression to special people in their lives choose to either serve these during breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and most often give these as gifts during the season.

Indeed, King Sue is as part of Filipino Christmas tradition as the quezo de bola and the various lucky round fruits and its quest to satisfy the Filipino taste and their ever-changing lifestyle will always be at its core values.

"Lush Initiative" SM Aura Premier's Program Towards a Geener Community

An advocate of green programs, SM Aura Premier launched the Lush Initiative - an ecological movement that showcases a round-up of eco-friendly activities to help build better lifestyle spaces - with a free film screening of "A Plastic Ocean" last November 21 in partnership with SM Cares, SM Cinema, World Wildlife Fund, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

"We share our vision with the Filipino community as we inspire greener mall spaces through various eco-friendly sustainable programs," said Bernice Baculi, SM Supermalls assistant Vice-President for mall operations.

Teaming up with Tulay Lingap ni Padre Pio Inc., SM Aura began building a lush environment in the mall through Boxes of Greens - the first fully-operational herb garden in a mall that not only promotes a green environment but also sustains the livelihood of rural communities. Proceeds of this program go to the building of schools, emergency assistance, and reforestation.

Both promoting a sustainable lifestyle, SM Aura teamed up with The Plastic Solution as the exclusive and official drop-off point for Eco-bricks - a plastic bottle stuffed with solid, non-biodegradable waste converted into structures for the surrounding communities. In just two days, its online release reached about 30,000 users with hundreds of shares.

The Last SStraw an initiative that envisions a strawless community, is also underway at SM Aura as more restaurants express their interest and active participation to the program by offering alternatives to plastic straws.

In collaboration with SM Cares - SM's corporate social responsibility arm - other green programs of SM Aura include Trash-to-Cash recycling market, among others. Part of the Lush Initiative is also coming out with a series of Sustainable Fairs that promote Zero-waste lifestyle and products. With its strong commitment to be an eco-friendly property development, SM Aura Premier is the first LEED certified building in Taguig City and is the first mall to receive a Gold LEED Certification.

Cycle 2 of Beko Philippines' Eat Like a Pro Cook Off

Beko Philippines, the Official Partner of the Everyday, has just recently conducted its Eat Like A Pro: Cook-Off Cycle 2 at Robinsons Metro East in Pasig City last November 16 -18, 2018.

The contest aims to showcase how parents and their children can work together in preparing delicious, budget-friendly, and healthy meals for the whole family.

The cooking contest for parent-child tandem is in support of Beko’s Eat Like A Pro (ELAP) advocacy, an information dissemination campaign that seeks to help parents provide healthier food choices for their children. This advocacy seeks to raise awareness about the rapidly growing rates of childhood malnutrition due in the Philippines to unhealthy eating habits.

“We are excited to hold the Eat Like A Pro: Cook-Off for the second time. We hope that parents and their children can show us their cooking skills as they prepare healthy dishes,” said Dyeun Zapanta, assistant general manager of Beko Philippines.

Beko successfully wrapped up the first leg of the Eat Like A Pro: Cook-Off last August 31 at the Eat Like A Pro: Cook-Off SM Southmall, Activity Center. The winner of the contest took home a Beko kitchen showcase and PHP 10,000-worth of cash prize.

“We want parents to know that it is possible to make their children eat healthy without compromising the taste of the meals they serve. The Eat Like A Pro: Cook-Off is only one of the things we are doing to promote healthy eating, especially among kids,” said Zapanta.

To know more about Beko’s #EatLikeAPro advocacy and Beko Philippines, like the Beko Philippines fan page (@BekoPH) or visit the website at www.beko.ph.

Abbott Introduces PediaSure® Plus #OhMyGrowth (OMG) Park to Provide Educational Experience on Children’s Growth and Development

Parents always want the best for their children and ensuring their growth and development is no exception. For this reason, parents like to know if their children are growing at the right height and want to make sure that they are eating the best foods to stay active and healthy as they grow.

To help encourage parents to properly measure their children in order to recognize signs of nutritional inadequacy and keep their growth on track, Abbott is launching the PediaSure Plus #OhMyGrowth (OMG) Park across a number of locations in the Philippines. The park offers a fun and interactive experience for parents and children over three years old. Featuring checkpoints for height, weight and immunity, the park is designed to educate parents on their children’s nutrition and growth development, while letting the kids enjoy fun-filled activities. Currently in Festival Mall, Alabang from Nov. 17-18, 2018, the park is also scheduled to be at: SM City Pampanga on Dec. 8-9 and SM Southmall, Las PiƱas on Dec. 15-16.

Complete and balanced nutrition is important for a child’s growth

The first five years is a critical window in a child’s life for bone growth, with 60 percent of a child’s adult height attributed to growth at this stage. However, this period is also the time when a child is most likely to encounter barriers to growth such as poor nutrition, feeding difficulties or frequent illnesses. It is important to ensure that a child is getting a complete and balanced nutrition as they grow and that appropriate nutrition is introduced in time so that the child can stay on track in achieving his full growth potential.

An oral nutritional supplement like PediaSure Plus can help provide the proper nutrition a child needs by helping to fill nutritional gaps. PediaSure Plus is clinically proven, with 37 growth nutrients and triple protein complex, to support muscle and bone growth. A clinical study among Filipino children showed that drinking two servings of PediaSure Plus with three balanced meals everyday resulted in visible growth within eight weeks — and helped to improve appetite, weight and height, reduced sick days, and sustained proportional growth.

Dr. Jose Rodolfo Dimaano Jr. – medical director at Abbott explains: “To support their overall growth and development, children require complete and balanced nutrition. PediaSure Plus provides essential macronutrients and micronutrients needed by a child to stay healthy and well-nourished. Its consistent use helps children to meet their dietary requirements of key nutrients for growth. This is especially important because many Filipinos are deficient in nutrients such as calcium, iron, vitamin A and C – all needed to support the optimal growth of children.”

At the launch event, celebrity mom Melissa Ricks - mother to three-year-old Keira, spoke about the importance of ensuring optimum nutrition with PediaSure Plus: “It was hard to make sure Keira was getting all the nutrition she needs when she was growing up because of her food preferences. But she loves the taste of PediaSure Plus - especially the chocolate one! With her having that twice a day, I can rest assured that she’s getting the proper nutrition she needs for her health and growth development - boosting her height, weight and immunity. It really helps me to make sure she is eating right, even on the busy days.”

Ideas To Accessorise Your Home

It can be hard to know how to accessorise your home with all the different styles available, from - shabby chic and boho to classic, modern and vintage. What is the right style to suit your home and your vibe? However, incorporating the right decor is crucial in producing vibes that show off your personality….and your home! Interior design is all the rage these days and we all want our homes to sparkle and stand out…for the right reasons!

Below we have come up with a few ideas on how you could accessorize your home; whether it’s with subtle colours and natural materials or with simple modern pieces, there is something for everyone.

Clocks
There is nothing more classically beautiful than a clock as a focal piece for your room, plus its also handy when you want to know what the time is! Clocks can combine soft coloured metals with beautiful wood or stone patterns and although are an accessory, could also be used as a feature. An oversized clock on your kitchen wall perhaps, or an elegant clock for your mantlepiece. Accessories don’t have to hide away in the background as added extras. Lionshome have a wonderful range of clocks available, from - large skeleton wall clocks, to clocks with copper finishes, desk top clocks and everything in between.

Mirrors

The reflections from mirrors can make a space feel much larger than it actually is, whilst also brightening up the room by reflecting the natural light. Mirrors are able to rejuvenate bare walls by displaying a sneak peak into your style; whether you choose pastel colours with geometric shapes, or the more classic wooden framed mirrors with bevelled edges you will love the openness it adds to your room and the style it will add to your decor.

Bold Wall Art

Wall art with bold colours or soft tones can make a huge statement in a room. You could incorporate artistic prints to make a bold impact to your visitors, or for a softer and more delicate or subtle touch, could you include serene garden prints to create an awe-inspiring presence, and something a little more tranquil. Art is seen completely differently by whoever looks at it and is somewhat of a conversation starter so go to town with your art choices, you can't really go wrong.

Plants

Artificial plants are the new modern trend and require less cleaning than real plants. Succulents like the Cacti Artificial Plant Terrariums are very realistic and are kept in uniquely shaped glass bowls. Alternatively, you can display small flora in the sleek, geometric design of the Tri Multi Wall Planter with black pot holders and brass metal accents.

Lighting

The lighting you decide for your room can really transform the space - whether you choose bright white lights for a more modern and cool feel to the space or more of a subtle, warm white light for a warming, more relaxed and cozy vibe. Ask yourself before you begin, what vibe are you going for in the room?

The more extravagant lights will showcase iconic shapes and features in your home. For example, perhaps you have a large stairwell or super high ceilings. Why not show these off with some super cool and modern lighting.

The next time you want to update your home decor, why not give some of these designs a try and see how you get on!

The Filipino Inventors Society Marks 75th Year Anniversary with an Expo Showcasing Promising Inventions

The Filipino Inventors Society was founded in 1943 and was incorporated in 1953 as a nonstock, nonprofit organization by Teo Puruganan, Pastor Reyes Torres and Dalmacio Buenaventura.
FIS aims in promoting the interests of inventors and their work by providing assistance in developing, protecting and locating markets for their inventions, utility models and industrial designs; diffusing information relating to industrial intellectual property; speaking for inventors nationwide, and cooperating with similarly bent persons and entities.

In line with the celebration of its diamond anniversary, FIS held the National Inventor's Week last November 15 - 21, 2018 at the SM North EDSA Skydome, with the theme “Go Innoventions! The Green Light for a Greater Philippines.”

The expo showcased unique and marketable inventions of Filipinos to the Filipinos.
Take a look at some of these inventions that we can be truly proud of being a Filipino.

Filipino inventions are smart, practical, efficient and promising, but is not given enough attention by the government, the private sector and the public as well, which is why they don't prosper and we, Filipinos, don't realize how they could make our lives even easier on a daily basis.

Let us help the Filipino Inventors Society in spreading the word so our local inventions will reach their full potential and we benefit from them.

We can only prosper and we can go on higher grounds if we will support our own. Let's go local, let's support our own inventors, just as how they want to support our future and the future of the next generation.
