RRQ, Polaris Esports edge out opponents to win in Predator League 2022 Philippine Finals

The SM Mall of Asia Central Atrium was the stage for the intense battles in the Predator League 2022 Philippine Finals, the first face-to-face tournament of Predator Gaming since 2020. Esports fans turned out to watch the live gaming action as Justin “Vill” Villarasen and Allyza “Tayrawr” Taylor energetically brought to life the action with their annotation.

The Predator League 2022 Philippine Finals offered the biggest prize pot of Php1 million since the league was born in 2018. 

For the Valorant division, Rex Regum Qeon made short work of Oasis Gaming with a scoreline of 13-5 on both Haven and Breeze while the veterans of South Built Esports and highly renowned Team Secret, a matchup with a very storied past, duked it out for a full 3-map series, with Team Secret bowing out of the competition, leaving South Built Esports to advance to the Grand Finals.

With a hard-earned win, 2-1, against South Built Esports , Rex Regum Qeon emerged as the champion.

Rex Regum Qeon received the Predator League Shield for Valorant and got the Php200,000 top prize while South Built Esports was awarded Php100,000 for their runner-up finish.

Polaris Esports flew from Cebu to compete in the semifinals against Atomic Esports, sweeping the match, 2-0, while GrindSky Esports edged out Execration, with a 2-1 scoreline.

For the Dota 2 finals, Polaris Esports clearly dominated the match to win the Predator League Shield and the Php200,000 top prize while GrindSky Esports got Php100,000.

Both Polaris Esports and GrindSky Esports will represent the Philippines in the Asia Pacific Predator League 2022 Grand Finals, where they will face off against the champions of the other Predator Leagues in the APAC region.

Johnson and Johnson with the help of Department of Education launches Bida Eskwela: Angat ang Batang Presko-Bango

Launching nationwide, the Bida Eskwela caravan aims to reach 100 public schools and 200,000 students to promote proper hygiene as they go back to face-to-face classes this school year.

In collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), Johnson and Johnson Philippines, makers of Johnson’s Baby, officially launched the Bida Eskwela: Angat ang Batang Presko-Bango caravan last September 20, 2022, with the goal of equipping moms this school year, as they level up their kids’ protection, and prepare them to go and explore the world again. Johnson’s Baby and DepEd have started rolling out the caravan, since the start of September in order to reach 200,000 students in 100 schools nationwide.

A program was held, to officially launch the program, at the Pasig Elementary School where select moms and students were taught the importance of maintaining proper hygiene in school, as well as learn about the upcoming programs of the Department of Education with the help of DepEd NCR regional director, Wilfredo Cabral.  

“The Department of Education welcomes partnerships with private partners like Johnson & Johnson Philippines as we work together in providing our school children with an enabling learning environment with emphasis on ensuring a safe balik-aral,” shared by regional director for DepEd NCR, Wilfredo Cabral. 

Sharing her experience as a mom of 2, the launch event was also hosted by Johnson’s Baby celebrity mombassador Bianca Gonzalez-Intal who talked about how she’s been preparing and protecting her daughters, Lucia and Carmen, as they continue learning and exploring the outdoors again this school year.

Polaris Esports performs a clean sweep to claim the championship at Predator League 2022 Philippines Dota 2 Grand Finals

The beloved esport of Dota 2 has finally returned to LAN action. GrindSky Esports, Execration, Polaris Esports, and Atomic Esports finally got to show their prowess in front of a highly charged audience at SM Mall of Asia Central Atrium on September 18, 2022.

Returning for the second day to host this prestigious event, Justin “Vill” Villarasen and Allyza “Tayrawr” Taylor were joined by a lineup of talented casters and panelists: Erika Mei “Aki” Ilar, John “Johnxfire” Nathan Fernandez, Aries “Kalbz” Alejandro, Nathaniel “NaTan” Wicks, and Rain “Rain” Zerlyn Manaig.

With four of the most skilled teams in the Philippines, the competition was charged from the get-go. GrindSky Esports, a relatively new organization in the Philippine scene, slightly edged out the veterans from Execration, with a 2-1 scoreline that guaranteed them a slot to the Grand Finals. Flying straight from their boot camp in Cebu, Polaris Esports was matched with the tenacious underdogs of Atomic Esports. But Polaris Esports proved that their pedigree was well-earned, with the Cebuanos sweeping the series 2-0, with their second game being finished in a lightning-fast 20-minute victory.

The Grand Finals was a test of whether or not Polaris Esports was the new kings of Philippine Dota, or if the new upstarts of GrindSky Esports were more than capable of proving that they were a force to be reckoned with. But at the end of the day, Polaris Esports proved that their recent performances were no mere flukes. They demolished GrindSky Esports in convincing fashion, winning 2 games straight to take home the Predator League Shield.

Besides the intense action that Dota 2 brought to the SM Mall of Asia Central Atrium, fans were once again treated to the presence of some of their favorite Dota personalities. KuyaNic, Kang Dupet, Ashley Gosiengfiao, and even the whole squad of TNC Predator were in the area to show their support and give selfies and signatures to their fans. Mayonnaise also graced the stage and performed some of their fan-favorite hits.

Polaris Esports walks away with PHP 200,000, while GrindSky Esports are rewarded with PHP 100,000 for their valiant efforts. As the curtains of this chapter of Predator League closes, a new one begins: Both Polaris Esports and GrindSky Esports will be traveling to Japan for the Asia Pacific Predator League 2022 Grand Finals where they will be representing the Philippines. There, they will face off against the champions of the other Predator Leagues in the APAC region. All eyes will be on Japan, from November 11 to 13, where the world will know who the best Dota 2 team from the region is.

"CONVERGE : Pushing the Reset Button," AYDA Awards new theme for this year's competition

How will the young Filipino designers converge to help shape the future and deliver the best possible solution to common and underlying social challenges, at the AYDA Awards 2022?

AYDA Awards, previously known as Young Designer Awards was established in 2008. It was launched as part of Nippon Paint's vision to nurture the next generation of design talents. AYDA has now established itself as one of Asia's premier design awards reaching 17 geographical locations from around the globe, including Japan, Singapore, India and Turkey.

Every year, AYDA presents yet another opportunity for young design talents to push their design boundaries further beyond the norm. This year's theme, CONVERGE : Pushing the Reset Button is about embracing a whole new world and learning to live with the pandemic. 

Entries for this year's competition are encouraged to show more about promoting human touch amidst a challenging world. Students are expected to incorporate colors as part of their design solution and at the same time never losing sight of aesthetics.

The current batch of design students are expected to be instrumental in shaping a new built environment as the world constantly evolves with the advancement of technology. This year's theme challenges the young designers to uphold diversity, remain humane and seek progress while holding on to one's roots.

Resilience, empathy, and sustainability should be present without losing extravagant and fancy designs. In this era of information overload, the idea of the new theme can be challenging but it is crucial to transform the conceptual design to reality.

What's in store for the winners?

Winners of the national competition (Philippines) will receive Php50,000 for the GOLD award, Php30,000 for the SILVER award and Php10,000 each for the TOP 8 Finalist. All those 10 winners will also receive internship opportunities.

National GOLD winners will be their country's representatives int he Architechtural / Interior Design category at the AYDA International Awards, sometime in June/July 2023.

The international winner for each category will have the opportunity to attend a three-week, all-expense-paid Design Discovery Program at HARVARD University's Graduate School of Design, USA; worth up to USD10,000 in the program's June 2024 cohort.

There are also special international awards to be given : Nippon Paint Colour Award, Best Sustainable Design, and Best Design Impact - with a cash prize of USD1,000 each winner.

AYDA Awards is indeed a very rare opportunity that every design talent should not miss. Who knows? You could be the next Moira Kayla Ramos from College of Saint Benilde (AYDA 2021 Interior Design Honorable Mention and National GOLD Winner) and Karen Joy Robines from Mindanao (AYDA 2021 Architecture national Gold Winner)? These two talented designers are now making their own name in the industry and are now enjoying the fruit of their intelligence, passion and perseverance that they showcased when they joined AYDA Awards in 2021.

SM Prime’s partnership with WWF dates back to 2007 under Hamilo Coast, its leisure resort development in Nasugbu, Batangas.

WWF closely monitors the health and viability of the Hamilo Coast area including three of its coves designated as Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)—the Pico de Loro, Etayo and Santelmo.

In recognition of its conservation efforts, Hamilo Coast was cited by WWF-Philippines as its longest standing Sustainability Partner in 2020.

Shopee stories highlight the transformative power of e-commerce and how it changes lives

In the face of adversity, Filipinos have always risen above every challenge by fostering the spirit of bayanihan. This spirit of community and togetherness is what Shopee recognized and strived for when it first launched Shopee Bayanihan — its umbrella CSR arm that aims to harness the power of technology to serve its customers, sellers, partner riders, and all Filipinos across the country. 

Today, Shopee Bayanihan continues to evolve as a multifaceted program with various initiatives that cater to the needs of Filipinos. Each of these initiatives are grounded in its main mission to better the lives of the underserved through technology—to be there for every Filipino through every hardship and victory.  

In line with these efforts, Shopee highlights the inspiring stories of five individuals, and how Shopee was able to support them in their time of need and help improve their lives. Watch the full video here. 

Roel, Shopee Xpress Partner Rider (TransOrient Agency): A hardworking father who strives to provide 

Roel’s journey with Shopee Xpress started when he joined the TransOrient Agency and was placed in the Bacoor Hub. Prior to that, he admitted that he was struggling to make ends meet. By becoming a Shopee Xpress partner rider, he was able to provide for his family and send his children to school. “Kapag ako sumuko pa, paano na sila? Wala namang lalaban sa pamilya natin kung hindi tayo,” Roel says. 

Roel shared that one of his happiest moments was when his son asked him to wear his Shopee Xpress uniform at his graduation ceremony. He realized that his son was very proud of him, and appreciated everything he had done. “Nabago ng Shopee ang buhay ko at ng pamilya ko. Ako ay isang proud Shopee Xpress rider!” says Roel. 


Virginia, Shopee Bayanihan: Typhoon Odette Beneficiary: Conquering fear as one community 

Virginia is one of the many beneficiaries of Shopee Bayanihan’s Typhoon Odette Support. She shared that her experience with the typhoon left her frightened and worried about the future of her family and her home. “I was shivering at the thought of what could happen because both my husband and I are sick. I didn’t know what to do. All I could do was pray for the strong winds to stop.” she says. 

When Shopee Bayanihan’s Typhoon Odette Support rolled out to affected areas in Cebu, Bohol, and Surigao, Virginia and her fellow residents of Tinago, Cebu, were one of the beneficiaries that received relief packs and other essentials. “We’re grateful that help came to our community. We were not really expecting this, and had no idea that Shopee was going to be there in our time of need,” she says. 


Mark and Angel, Shopee Sellers: Fighting for their family by driving their business forward 

Mark and Angel nearly lost their daughter to biliary atresia, a rare condition that affected her liver and required her to undergo an expensive procedure abroad. In order to provide for their family and help pay for Avery’s maintenance medicine, the couple decided to start their business, Live Pillow. Before taking their business online, they struggled to generate sales. “May mga araw po talaga na wala kaming benta, at sobrang lungkot po namin ni partner nun,” shared Mark. 

When they put up a store on Shopee, they were able to reach new customers, generating thousands of orders. Now, Mark and Angel were able to expand their business by having their own staff and warehouse. “Dahil sa Shopee, nagkaroon kami ng pangalawang pamilya at ang staff po namin ‘yun. Lahat kayo, lahat tayo dito, pamilya.” says Angel. 


Jocell, Shopee Girl ng Pook Dagohoy: Finding the best deals to support her family 

Known as the “Shopee Girl ng Pook Dagohoy”, stay-at-home mom Jocelle shared that it was hard for her to find a way to save due to her family’s debt. “Nalubog kami sa utang. Nung nagka-pandemic, nawalan ng trabaho yung asawa ko. Nangungutang na lang ako ulit para may maibayad sa utang din namin,” says Jocell. 

Through Shopee, she was able to save on all her essentials and bills. “Na-diskubre ko na pwede akong umorder ng mga diaper na naka-sale sa Shopee, kaya sobrang nakakatipid ako. Yung ShopeePay bills payment naman po doon po ako nagbabayad ng ilaw at tubig para makakuha ng cashback,” she shares. 

Today, Jocelle is able to manage her expenses better, as she is able to get better deals on her family’s needs on Shopee. “Parte na talaga si Shopee ng buhay namin,” says Jocell. 

NEW Adventure awaits at Playpark's DREAM OF A NEW WORLD closed beta test

Playpark’s newest mobile RPG title Dream of a New World (DNW) will open the doors of Mulland for a Closed Beta Test (CBT) starting August 31 - September 5, 2022. During this time, pre-registered players will be able to experience the Beta version of the game together with their friends. Do note that there will be a server wipe after the CBT.

The CBT comes after the limited-capacity Alpha Test conducted last July 21 - 24, 2022. The PlayPark DNW Team, working with the developers from Archosaur Games, have incorporated the improvements from the Alpha Test in order to bring the game one step closer to its grand launch. And to celebrate the Closed Beta, the team has lined up a lot of in-game and community activities for the pioneer Dreamers who will take their first steps into the world of Mulland! 

All pre-registered participants who play during the CBT duration will receive the exclusive ‘CBT Pioneer’ signature for claiming during the official launch of the game. There will be stretch goals containing more rewards, costumes, and a title if the milestones are met! You can still pre-register on Play Store or App Store to join the Closed Beta Test. Just search for ‘Dream of a New World’ on these app platforms and tap ‘Pre-register’ or ‘Pre-Order’. 

During the CBT period, the PlayPark Dream of a New World team will also be giving away random rewards at random intervals to players who are online and can participate in the activities and tasks that the GM will announce. The rewards include costumes, gear, special pets, mounts, headgear, and even diamonds to fuel your gacha needs! 

Other activities include a Level Race open to all CBT participants and winners will get lots of in-game rewards to help in their adventure. There will also be an Aether Purification Run with the GM where players can team up with the Dream of a New World GMs to speed clear dungeons through the power of teamwork and friendship!

All you need to do is get your portfolio sorted and fill out the special form and wait for feedback from the team!
