Insure your Car to Ensure your Journey

With the current traffic situation anywhere in the country, owning a car is now considered a necessity for many and no longer a luxury. Buying one only becomes a luxury once you buy a car that's not within your reach.

Cars have become prevalent and important nowadays especially in developing countries such as ours because we are commercializing at a pace like never before and it is an easy, comfortable and safe mode of transportation. In the Philippines where public transportation encounters a lot of troubles most of the times, people would find their daily commutes stress-free and hassle-free with their own car plus they can enjoy the liberty and independence that comes with it.

But owning a car, just like any other privilege comes with a responsibility. Apart from providing a garage for the car and securing all the pertinent and legal documents a car owner needs, another responsibility that comes with it is having car insurance.

Having car insurance in the Philippines is one way to manage the risk of accidents which may happen anytime, anywhere regardless of how skilled a driver is. It protects the owner from unexpected expenses in case the car gets damaged, stolen, or when a rider and driver gets injured. Ideally, car insurance is meant to spare motorists from spending thousands on repairs or hospital bills. Further, it gives you peace of mind every time you hit the road.

In the Philippines, insurance apart from the one issued by the LTO is not mandatory unlike in other countries where it is illegal not to insure your car. If you don’t have it, you could be fined or disqualified from driving.

To a family like ours which is now getting bigger and bigger and the needs also increases everyday, buying a decent car is a practical way to make things done daily - from bringing the kids to school and fetching them after, to traveling for grocery shopping, for hanging out with family and friends to a more important travels such as family vacation in the province and daily travel for business or work. A lot of our actions are dependent on public transport, therefore, buying our own car would be a wise decision and apart from planning what type and brand would perfectly suit the needs of our family, it also came across our mind to choose the best third-party insurance that there is in the country.

Of all the car insurances we have inquired and researched online, Automaster by Malayan Insurance impressed us the most. Fight the Malaria Scare

Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease widespread in the tropical and subtropical regions that exist in a broad band around the equator, which includes much of Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This disease affecting humans and other animals is caused by parasitic protozoans belonging to the Plasmodium type. Its typical symptoms, which usually begin ten to fifteen days after being bitten include fever, feeling tired, vomiting, and headaches. In severe cases it can cause yellow skin, seizures, coma, or death. If not properly treated, people may have recurrences of the disease months later. In those who have recently survived an infection, reinfection usually causes milder symptoms. This partial resistance disappears over months to years if the person has no continuing exposure to malaria.

How huge is the effect of Malaria?

In 2015, there were 296 million cases of malaria worldwide resulting in an estimated 731,000 deaths. Approximately 90% of both cases and deaths occurred in Africa. Malaria is commonly associated with poverty and has a major negative effect on economic development. In Africa, it is estimated to result in losses of US$12 billion a year due to increased healthcare costs, lost ability to work, and negative effects on tourism.

What can we do to reduce the risk of the disease?

By preventing mosquito bites through the use of mosquito nets and insect repellents, or with mosquito control measures such as spraying insecticides and draining stagnant water, the risk of spreading the disease can be reduced. Several medications are also available to prevent malaria in travelers to areas where the disease is common. In areas with high rates of Malaria, occasional doses of the combination medication are recommended in infants and after the first trimester of pregnancy. Despite a need, no effective vaccine exists, although efforts to develop one are ongoing since 2016.

How is Malaria treated?

There are recommended antimalarial medications to treat the disease such as the Doxycycline 100mg malaria capsules. Doxycycline capsules are an effective antibiotic treatment for preventing malaria in at risk areas whilst travelling.
Malaria can be anywhere and it might affect us unknowingly. Proper education regarding the disease is needed so we will not fall victim to it.

How to prepare for a Cocktail Party look?

Mr. Postman handed you over an elegantly embossed black and gold invitation which says, "Please come in your best Cocktail Party look." It is the birthday party of your very special childhood friend and you must not say "NO" despite the fact that you are clueless about what to wear and don't know how to properly wear it. What should you do?

First, you should know what cocktail party means. Well, a cocktail party is a party at which cocktails are served. Sometimes, it is referred to as a cocktail reception. A mixer, on the other hand, is an organized cocktail party for purposes of social or business networking.

Next, know what to properly wear to a cocktail party. A cocktail dress, of course! A cocktail dress is typically a knee-length party dress. You can go as elegant, as sleek as you want but never wear a skimpy dress. A cocktail party should not be confused with a night out with friends or colleagues. Do not wear something that is transparent, sleazy or something that gets you unnecessary attention. Also be watchful of your neckline, make sure they don’t plunge into the oblivion. Also, avoid wearing see-through dresses.

For women, the proper attire for a cocktail party is a short dress that are party-ready. When in doubt, wear a little black dress and dress it up with fun jewelry. If you'd rather wear color, opt for something bright and feminine.
Here are more tips on how to pull-out a cocktail party look.
Wear hosiery or stockings. Bare legs are not such a great choice for a cocktail party or a formal event. Sheer black or a nude color will suffice for the occasion.
Go for high heels. Avoid flat shoes unless completely unavoidable. Never wear flip-flops no matter how indisputable the comfort is. Also put aside the gladiators, flat sandals, because they are not considered as cocktail outfits. Platform heels, wedges, or pumps are perfect footwear and they enhance your silhouette.
Both open and closed-toe shoes are acceptable for a formal or informal event. If the shoes are open-toe then go for seamless hosiery.
Choose the right dress line. Go for a full-length dress for a black tie (formal) event, knee-length or slightly lower for a semi-casual event, and knee-length or higher for a casual event.
Avoid wearing skirts or suits. Also, don't show up in jeans. Try pantsuits or chic looking trousers with a chic silk or chiffon blouse. You can pair the outfit with a pearl necklace, pumps, and just the right amount of makeup.

Accessories are necessary to elevate your outfit but don't overdo them. Think about that one piece in your kit that will not only stand out but also complements the outfit. Choose just one statement piece that needs to stand out. Wearing too many accessories will look sloppy and unappealing, and ruins the entire outfit. You can add a fine jewelry like a bracelet, finger rings, etc but keep them minimal.
If your host/hostess is known to be old-fashioned or traditional, dress more conservatively than you would if the host were especially avant-garde.
If you are not sure where to find the right cocktail dress for the occasion, do check out JJsHouse for inspiration.

Snus history : Discovery, development and its relevance nowadays

Snus originated in Sweden in the early 18th century. This moist powder smokeless tobacco product originating from a variant of dry snuff started as a way to preserve tobacco. It is placed inside the lip (between the lip and gums) for extended periods and it does not typically result in the need for spitting

Snus is not fermented, it is steam-pasteurized which means this product undergoes heating to a specific temperature for a specific period of time.

Snuff, a pulverized tobacco was the precursor of snus, a moist snuff. According to some written history, snuff was introduced to France by French diplomat, Jean Nicot in the 16th century. It was recommended as a migraine remedy to Catherine de' Medici, an Italian noblewoman who was queen consort of France. She became a regular user of snuff and since then it became a fashion among the court and upper-class citizens of France, especially among females. It was deemed more socially acceptable than other forms of tobacco.

This trend of using snuff in the nose also spread to Sweden at the beginning of the 17th century. In the 18th century, Swedish producers began to manufacture moist snuff, which was placed in the lower lip and did not require spitting. It became known as snus. Ettan (meaning "the number one"), registered in 1822, is the oldest brand of snus still sold.

In Sweden, it was said to have helped lower smoking rates, as statistics showed more than half of Swedish snus users are ex-smokers. These ex-smokers somehow reduced their chances of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Snus also has helped Norway cut down on smoking as well. People either used it to help them quit cigarettes or as an alternative to cigarettes if they hadn’t successfully quit.

Snus is made differently in the US. While the Swedish have limited the number of chemicals that can be in their snus products, the U.S. has no such rules. Therefore, snus users must be aware of the products that are US-made.

Cigarette smoking is prevalent among adolescents nowadays, mostly teenage boys. Some of them started it out of curiosity or peer pressure; others as a means to escape from the problems they are facing in the family, school, personal life, or in the society. To help these young people quit smoking or lessen the activity, there are kinds of snus that are designed for them, which proved to have helped.

Snus since it was discovered until this moment that it is being further developed, has been helping the society to be a little less harmful from the risks that cigarette smoking is causing us.

Acer tops 2022 consumer notebook sales in the Philippines for 16 consecutive years, also leads gaming notebook category

Acer ruled the notebook category for consumer and gaming with 33.5% and 40.4% market share, respectively. The strongest growth drivers were multiple product offerings across all market segments and Acer’s value-for-money proposition. Acer’s sustainability efforts and choice of brand ambassadors also got the public’s attention.

Acer continued to dominate the PC notebook category in the Philippines for 2022 and was the No. 1 consumer notebook brand for the 16th consecutive year. The brand topped the category with a 35.2% market share, according to a third-party research firm. Acer was also No. 1 in the gaming notebook category with a 40.4% market share.

For 2022, market share peaked for Acer in October at 48.2% as post-pandemic hybrid work made notebooks even more of a necessity. In 2021, Acer had an overall market share of 33% - 30% in consumer notebooks and 34% in gaming notebooks.

Online learning was among the drivers for growth. It was in the education sector that Acer truly showed its strength with multiple product offerings across all market segments and the brand’s value-for-money proposition.

Acer’s sustainability efforts, particularly with the Green PC, Acer Vero, also helped push laptop sales. Other green activities that helped gain consumer attention were the #MakeYourGreenMark 21-Day Challenge and the Green Mark Concert, where Acer fans helped raise Php1.38 million for the GreenEarth Heritage Foundation and 20 metric tons of plastic waste compensation for The Plaf. Acer ambassadors like Sarah Geronimo, SB19, Kathryn Bernardo, and Daniel Padilla also helped to get the brand’s messages across to consumers.

Meanwhile, Acer Predator's choice of ambassadors – Alodia Gosiengfiao, Team Payaman, Een Mercado, Kang Dupet, Blacklist International Dota 2 Team, Team Secret Valorant, Polaris Esports, and Boom Esports among others – for its gaming laptops also resonated with the gaming community. The brand’s support for esports, by holding grassroots tournaments for up-and-coming players, also gained fans for gaming devices. There was also a lot of buzz as the Asia Pacific Predator League 2022 Grand Finals was finally staged offline after two years of being online.

Another growth driver was the brand’s strong presence nationwide. Consumers can shop for Acer products in Acer Concept Stores and through authorized dealers. Online, Acer is available on its website and on Shopee and Lazada.

“In the last two years, there was an unprecedented demand for computers because of online work and education. As things slowly but surely return to normal, Acer’ goal is to optimally perform within core business competencies as we prepare for areas of future growth. Our consumers can only expect the best of what we can give them,” said Sue Ong-Lim, Acer Philippines General Manager.
