The Philippines' Longest-Running Campus Comedy Variety Show is Back!

U.P. SAMASKOM Kicks Off LIVE A.I.D.S: HYSTERICAL REVISIONISM - Thirty-Four Years of Historic Laughter, Dance, and Kimmy-nism!

After a five-year hiatus from the theater scene due to pandemic restrictions, the longest-running comedy variety show from the UP Diliman campus is making a triumphant return! Live A.I.D.S. (Ang Istoryang Dinebelop ng SAMASKOM), an annual musical-comedy series produced by the talent-rich student organization UP SAMASKOM, is set to stage its 34th edition from July 5 to 7 at the Ignacio B. Jimenez - KAL Theater in UP.

This year's edition, titled LIVE A.I.D.S.: HYSTERICAL REVISIONISM: “Tatlumpu’t Apat na Taon ng Makasaysayang Tawanan, Sayawan at Kimmy-nism”, promises to deliver its signature blend of humor and sharp socio-political commentary. Through witty skits, dances, and dazzling production numbers, the show will provide a comic lens on Philippine society and contemporary issues, turning trending topics and viral content into an unforgettable performance.




"What started as a mere applicants' batch project in 1983 has grown into one of the most anticipated events in the Diliman Republic. Each year, Live A.I.D.S. always surpasses its previous record number of fans who watch the show," says Venice Atienza, Production Management Mentor for Live A.I.D.S Hysterical Revisionism, a UP SAMASKOM alumna who has been involved in both the production and creative departments of the show for several years.

UP SAMASKOM alumni have made significant contributions to the local entertainment scene, both in front of and behind the camera. The careers of notable personalities such as Kuya Kim Atienza, Giselle Sanchez, RS Francisco, Raymond Lauchengco, Wency Cornejo, Ate Glow, Michelle O’ Bombshell, Tuesday Vargas, Mrs. Tan, and KaladKaren were all launched through Live A.I.D.S.

Prominent figures in the entertainment industry, including ABS-CBN’s head of TV Production, Star Magic Chief, and Pinoy Big Brother Head Director Laurenti (Loren) Dyogi, as well as ABS-CBN Global Head of Creative Services Ned Legaspi, are also SAMASKOM alumni.

The show has amassed a dedicated following of fans and avid viewers, including celebrities like Bianca Gonzales, Ricky Lee, Quark Henares, John Lapus, Rajo Laurel, Jigs Mayuga, Tim Yap, and Vice Ganda.

Why Should We Prefer Vegan and Natural Products for Our Skin?

In today's world, many beauty and skincare brands are emerging in the market. They promise a lot—affordability, whitening, age-defying effects, and much more—which can be overwhelming. The truth is, it can be exhausting to search for and choose the right product for our skin. Finding the product that perfectly suits us is a trial-and-error process.

Because they are rich in antioxidants and natural oils, they can soothe sensitive or allergy-prone skin.

When choosing products for my skin, these two factors are my primary considerations. Being vegan and containing natural ingredients gives me peace of mind that the products are safe for my skin and will not have any harmful effects on my skin and overall health in the long run.

I believe there are many products on the market nowadays claiming to be effective and provide immediate results, but most of these claims are primarily for promotional purposes. While searching for skincare products that offer sustainable beauty, I came across Elle De Marrer. Celebrate Independence Day at Ortigas Malls: Honoring Filipino Heroes, Culture, and Music

Independence Day, or Araw ng Kalayaan, is a cherished occasion in the Philippines, commemorating both historical and contemporary heroes who have fought for the nation's freedom. From 3 pm to 9 pm, Musika’t Kalayaan will take place at Level 2, Food Village, featuring Filipino tunes that celebrate the nation’s rich musical heritage. Shoppers and visitors can enjoy these performances while exploring the unique offerings of Tiendesitas, making for a culturally enriching experience.

Estancia Mall

Urgent Regulation Needed to Combat Misleading Claims and Added Sugars in Foods Marketed to Young Children in the Philippines

A recent study conducted by UNICEF Philippines in collaboration with the Consortium for Improving Complementary Foods in Southeast Asia (COMMIT) has unveiled alarming findings regarding the nutritional quality of commercially produced packaged foods for young children in the Philippines. The research reveals that more than one-third of these products, aimed at children aged 6 months to 3 years, contain added sugars or sweeteners. Compounding the issue is the prevalent use of potentially misleading and deceptive labeling, coupled with insufficient government regulations on product composition and sale. This situation is particularly concerning given the tripling of overweight children in the country since 2003, a figure that is now considered "high" by global standards.

The Philippines is grappling with a triple burden of malnutrition, which manifests as stunting, wasting, micronutrient deficiencies, and a rapid increase in overweight and obesity among children. This multifaceted malnutrition crisis poses significant health risks for the country's young population.



UNICEF Representative to the Philippines, Oyunsaikhan Dendevnorov, emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “Children have a right to good nutrition. Without updated and enforced food regulations to protect children, they will consume more unhealthy foods that have high sugar content and sweeteners. This can displace needed essential nutrients, harm their dental health, and cause them to prefer unhealthy food later in life, leading to obesity and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and heart diseases.”

The COMMIT study examined 182 infant cereals, purees, snacks, and ready-to-eat meals marketed to infants and young children in the Philippines. Key findings from the study include:

  • Over a third of the products sold contain added sugars or sweeteners.
  • None of the product labels were in Filipino, making it challenging for parents and caregivers to understand and interpret the information.
  • Unhealthy products are marketed and promoted as suitable for young children aged 6 months to 3 years.
  • Most products are within recommended sodium thresholds.
  • Nearly all dry or instant cereal products are fortified, but the fortification levels often do not meet recommended standards.
  • A quarter of the food products lack a recommended minimum age of use of at least 6 months.
  • Only 2% of the product labels include messaging on the importance of continued breastfeeding.
  • Product labels often feature claims about product composition or nutrient content, such as “no artificial colors” and “100 percent natural.”

Commercially produced complementary foods are a staple in the diets of young children in the Philippines, with 83% of mothers from urban areas reporting daily provision of these foods to their children. In their decision-making process, 90% of mothers pay attention to product labels. The factors influencing their choices include nutritional value (84%), health information (83%), quality of ingredients (76%), mix of ingredients (68%), low or no added sugar (45%), and low or no salt (44%). However, only 26% of mothers cited nutrition or developmental benefits as reasons for providing these foods.

In light of these findings, UNICEF and COMMIT partners are advocating for:

  • Enhanced government regulations for commercially produced complementary foods, including banning the use of added sugars and sweeteners, limiting sugar and sodium content, and prohibiting misleading marketing and labeling practices.
  • Rigorous government monitoring and enforcement of national regulations on commercially produced complementary foods.
  • Support for parents to provide a diverse array of nutritious food to their youngest children by making healthy food available and affordable, and helping them navigate deceptive marketing and labeling practices.

These measures are crucial in ensuring that young children in the Philippines receive the nutrition they need for healthy growth and development, free from the adverse effects of high sugar content and misleading marketing.

The Science Behind the Styling

Dyson has invested over half a billion GBP in researching the science of hair styling, studying everything from hair structure to airflow dynamics. By understanding thermal, mechanical, and chemical damage, Dyson's engineers have developed a method to style hair using powerful airflow, reducing the need for high heat. This approach minimizes frizz and flyaways while protecting natural shine.

When hair is wet, water weakens the hydrogen bonds within each strand, making them more elastic and easier to reset as they dry. By using controlled airflow and optimal heat levels, the Dyson Airstrait™ styles hair with less damage, maintaining volume and movement. Once the hair is dry and aligned, the bonds are reset, locking the new style in place.

Dyson Hyperdymium™ Motor

The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener is powered by the Hyperdymium™ motor, specifically engineered for Dyson's hair care technologies. This small, lightweight motor generates the airflow needed to dry and straighten wet hair simultaneously. A 13-blade impeller spins up to 106,000rpm, propelling over 11.9 liters of air per second and generating up to 3.5kPa of air pressure—enough to straighten hair as it dries. At just 27mm, the motor fits comfortably in the handle without sacrificing power.

Intelligent Heat Control

The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener includes an intelligent heat control feature. Glass bead thermistors measure the temperature of the airflow up to 16 times per second to prevent heat damage and protect hair’s natural shine. This data is sent to the microprocessor, which regulates the heating element to ensure the airflow does not exceed the required temperature.

Two Styling Modes and Temperature Control

The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener offers 'Wet' and 'Dry' styling modes, as well as a 'Cool' mode to set the style. The 'Wet' and 'Dry' modes come with pre-set heat and airflow combinations for optimal results. In 'Wet' mode, users can choose from three heat settings: 80°C, 110°C, and 140°C.
