Summer 2026 Made Brighter: Anko Philippines Launches Beach, Picnic, and Outdoor Family Essentials

The countdown to summer has officially begun. Soon, alarm clocks will be silenced, school bags tucked away, and calendars cleared for spontaneous swim trips, relaxed merienda picnics, and backyard playdates that stretch until sunset. For Filipino families, summer is more than a season — it’s a time to reconnect, recharge, and create simple yet meaningful memories together.

Just in time for these sun-soaked moments, Australian home and lifestyle brand Anko introduces a new collection of affordable, thoughtfully designed summer essentials made to complement the way Filipino families celebrate the season. From beach escapes to shaded park picnics and at-home mini adventures, Anko makes it easy to plan bright, stress-free days outdoors.

Make Waves with a Quick Beach or Pool Day

Nothing says summer like a spontaneous trip to the beach or pool. Whether it’s a full-day outing or a quick morning dip, the key to a successful swim day is preparation — especially when little ones are involved.

Help young swimmers build confidence in the water with the Swim Vest (₱880), designed to support safe and comfortable play. Add excitement to splash time with the 4-Pack of Dive Fish (₱260), perfect for underwater treasure hunts that keep kids engaged and active.

After hours in the water, dry off quickly with the Hooded Cotton Beach Towels (₱390) for kids, offering warmth and coverage in one easy step. Parents can lounge comfortably using the plush Turkish Cotton Beach Towel (₱590) — ideal for setting up a cozy family “home base” on the sand or poolside.

Snack breaks are just as important as swim sessions. Keep treats organized and colorful with Pastel Tumblers, Plates, and Bowls (₱130 each) that are lightweight and easy to carry. When it’s time to pack up, the durable EVA Tote Bag (₱690) keeps everything secure. Its waterproof, wipe-clean material ensures damp towels and swim gear stay neatly contained, making cleanup effortless.

With the right essentials on hand, even a quick swim day transforms into a relaxed, joy-filled family experience.

Enjoy a Shady Park Picnic (Even for Simple Merienda)

A picnic doesn’t have to mean an elaborate spread. Sometimes, a simple merienda under a shady tree is all it takes to make a weekday feel special.

Start with the versatile 2-in-1 Bag and Mat (₱790), which unfolds into a ready-to-use picnic surface in seconds. Keep snacks elevated and stable on grass with the practical Picnic Table (₱660), while the stylish Retro Cooler (₱1,190)ensures drinks stay refreshingly cold throughout the afternoon.

Store homemade favorites or takeout treats in the spacious Large Food Containers (₱1,120), designed to keep meals fresh and organized. Parents can unwind in comfort with the classic Blue Stripe Chair (₱790), blending functionality with timeless summer style.

To keep energy levels high, bring along the Catch Ball Set (₱290) for lighthearted family competition. And for families bringing their furry companions, the Toy Novelty Cooling Set (₱890) helps pets stay cool and included in the day’s fun.

With minimal setup and thoughtful essentials, even a short park visit can turn into a refreshing summer ritual.

Turn the Backyard into a Mini Adventure Zone

Not every memorable summer moment requires travel. For busy families or those who prefer staying close to home, the backyard can easily become a space for exploration and play.

Encourage active movement with the vibrant Rainbow Twirl Ribbon (₱90), or let imaginations soar with the lightweight Foam Glider (₱160) and the thrilling Aerospace Power Rocket (₱840). For friendly competition, set up the Archery Set (₱260) or challenge kids to master the Skip Ball (₱260).

Younger children can dive into imaginative play with the Truck Adventure Set (₱290), perfect for storytelling and creative scenarios. After an afternoon of laughter and games, cool down with sweet treats served in the charming Ice Cream Bowl and Spoon Set (₱370) — a simple way to end the day on a delightful note.

These small yet meaningful activities prove that summer magic often happens right at home.

Everyday Moments, Made Brighter

Summer memories are not defined by how far families travel, but by the shared experiences that fill each sunny day. With Anko’s fresh collection of seasonal must-haves, parents can relax a little longer, kids can play a little harder, and every outing — big or small — becomes easier to plan and more enjoyable to experience.

This limited-time summer collection is now available at Anko stores located at Ayala Malls Glorietta 2, TriNoma, Alabang Town Center, Manila Bay, and Feliz. Families are encouraged to visit early to grab their favorites before stocks run out.

For more inspiration on how to make everyday living brighter, download the app, sign up for Anko Club at anko.com/anko-club, and follow @anko_philippines on Instagram and TikTok.

Make this the season of simple joys, spontaneous outings, and sunshine-filled memories — because summer is always brighter with Anko.

36 Elite Players Set the Stage for the High-Stakes GameZone Tour Finals

A new era of competitive Tongits begins as GameZone, the Philippines’ leading card game developer, officially launches the rebranded GameZone Tour—a high-stakes tournament featuring 36 elite players battling for glory and the lion’s share of a massive ₱10,000,000 prize pool.

Set to take place on March 7 to 8 at the PNB Financial Center in Pasay City, the first major season of 2026 marks an exciting milestone in the evolution of professional Tongits tournaments in the Philippines.

From Tongits Champion Cup to GameZone Tour

The GameZone Tour traces its roots to a successful debut in 2024 under the name Tongits Champion Cup (TCC). Following its strong reception from players and fans alike, the competition evolved into the GameZone Tablegame Champions Cup (GTCC). Two high-energy editions—Summer Showdown and September Arena—raised the bar for competitive Tongits, showcasing advanced strategies, precision gameplay, and elite-level mastery from the country’s best card game tacticians.

Now in 2026, the competition enters a bold new chapter with the launch of the Tongits Plus Champions Cup (TPCC)—the first of four major GameZone Tour seasons this year.

36 of the Best Tongits Players in the Philippines

The Tongits Plus Champions Cup will feature 36 top-tier players carefully selected through an intensive, eight-week, multi-stage online qualification process. Thousands of GameZone Tongits players competed for a coveted spot, but only the most consistent, strategic, and resilient competitors earned their place in the finals.

To ensure peak performance, all 36 qualified players will receive full travel and accommodation support, underscoring GameZone’s commitment to elevating professional Tongits tournaments in the Philippines.

The ultimate champion will take home half of the ₱10,000,000 prize pool—one of the biggest rewards ever offered in a local Tongits competition.

Tournament Format: A True Test of Skill and Strategy

The Tongits Plus Champions Cup (TPCC) features a dynamic and highly competitive format designed to test adaptability, focus, and mastery of the game.

Day 1: Three High-Intensity Rounds

Elimination Round
The tournament opens with all 36 players competing head-to-head. The top 12 finishers will automatically advance to the next stage.

Revival Round
The remaining 24 players will get a second chance in this redemption stage. Only half will survive and move forward to rejoin the leading contenders.

Promotional Round
Capping off Day 1, this decisive round will narrow the field to just nine elite players who will advance to the final day.

Day 2: The Road to the Grand Stage

Semifinals
The remaining nine competitors will battle fiercely for just three coveted seats in the championship round.

Grand Stage
The final three players will compete in the ultimate showdown. Here, the 2026 Tongits Plus Champions Cup winner will be crowned—the best Tongits player of the tournament—alongside the awarding of major prizes and final rankings.

More Than Just the Main Event

Beyond the headline competition, a side tournament will also take place, offering participants another chance to win from a ₱500,000 prize pool. This additional event adds even more excitement to what is already shaping up to be one of the biggest Tongits events in the Philippines.

Where to Watch the GameZone Tour Finals

Tongits enthusiasts and fans of competitive Filipino card games can catch all the action live from the main TPCC stage and other featured events through the official GameZone website at gzone.ph.

With bigger prizes, a refined tournament format, and the nation’s top Tongits masters in one arena, the GameZone Tour signals a transformative moment for professional Tongits competitions in the Philippines.

Get a Handle on Your Love Handles: Doctor-Approved Ways to Lose Belly Fat

That stubborn “spare tire” around your midsection may seem like a simple cosmetic concern, but health experts warn that excess belly fat can increase your risk for heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. If you’ve been struggling with love handles—also known as “muffin top”—it may be time to look beyond aesthetics and focus on long-term health.

According to Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed), one of the leading hospitals in the Philippines, understanding why fat accumulates around the waist is the first step toward effective and sustainable weight loss.

Why Do Love Handles Develop?

“Fat develops when you accumulate more calories than you burn or use as energy,” explains Dr. Juancho Alfredo D. Las of MakatiMed. “The more fat cells you have, the more visible they become on your body.”

Several factors influence where fat settles, including:

Age
Genetics
Body composition
Hormonal changes

While fat can accumulate in the upper back, arms, thighs, buttocks, and abdomen, the midsection is one of the most common problem areas.

The Hidden Dangers of Belly Fat

Not all fat is created equal. When discussing abdominal fat, doctors distinguish between two types:
Subcutaneous fat – the soft fat directly under the skin that you can pinch.
Visceral fat – the deeper fat that surrounds vital organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys.

While a small amount of visceral fat is normal, excessive levels significantly increase the risk of:

Cardiovascular disease
Stroke
Type 2 diabetes
Hypertension
Certain cancers

This is why reducing belly fat isn’t just about fitting into smaller jeans—it’s about protecting your long-term health.

Can You Spot-Reduce Love Handles?

Before you start doing endless crunches or holding a plank for minutes on end, here’s an important truth: spot reduction doesn’t work.

Fitness experts emphasize that the body burns fat overall—not in isolated areas. That means targeting your love handles requires a holistic approach focused on nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes.

Here are MakatiMed’s doctor-approved recommendations for reducing love handles and improving overall wellness.

1. Choose Whole, Minimally Processed Foods
A diet heavy in ultra-processed foods is often high in sodium, unhealthy fats, and empty calories—contributing not just to weight gain but also to high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol.

Instead, prioritize:
Lean proteins like chicken and fish
Fiber-rich vegetables and fruits
Whole grains such as brown or red rice
Oatmeal and beans
Healthy fats from avocado and nuts

Water remains the healthiest beverage choice. Cutting back on sugary drinks and limiting extra servings of refined carbohydrates can make a significant difference in reducing belly fat.

2. Move More Throughout the Day

If you spend most of your day seated in front of a computer, small lifestyle adjustments can add up.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator
Walk short distances instead of commuting
Take walking breaks every 30–60 minutes
Exercise with a friend for accountability

Cardio workouts help burn calories, but strength training is equally important. Resistance exercises using weights or bands can boost your metabolism and continue burning calories even after your workout ends.

3. Manage Stress and Sleep Well

Chronic stress increases cortisol levels—the hormone linked to belly fat storage and cravings for salty or sugary foods. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, hobbies, or regular exercise can help regulate this hormone.

Sleep is equally critical. Getting the recommended 7–8 hours per night helps balance appetite hormones like leptin (which signals fullness) and ghrelin (which triggers hunger). Poor sleep can sabotage even the best diet and exercise routine.

4. Limit Alcohol and Quit Smoking

Alcohol is calorie-dense, and excessive intake—especially binge drinking—encourages fat storage in the abdominal area. When you consume alcohol, the liver prioritizes processing it instead of burning fat and carbohydrates.

As Dr. Las quips, “Now you know why it’s called beer belly.”

Smoking also disrupts appetite hormones and overall metabolism. Quitting improves not only your waistline but your heart and lung health as well.

Reducing love handles requires consistency, patience, and a commitment to healthier habits. Crash diets and quick fixes may promise fast results, but sustainable weight loss comes from balanced nutrition, regular exercise, quality sleep, and stress management.

Taking control of your love handles today could mean protecting your heart—and your future—tomorrow.

CanCham GMM Pushes United Action to Strengthen Cancer Care in the Philippines

Government, private sector, and healthcare leaders convened in Manila to advance a whole-of-society approach to cancer care—one that spans prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship—during the recent General Membership Meeting (GMM) of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (CanCham). Held on February 11 at Ayala North Exchange in the Makati Central Business District, the gathering carried the timely and urgent theme, “Strengthening the Philippines’ Cancer Care Ecosystem.”

As one of the longest-serving Canadian companies in the country, Manulife Philippines supported the event as official partner, underscoring its commitment to improving health outcomes and financial resilience for Filipinos. The GMM brought together policymakers, business leaders, insurers, and healthcare stakeholders to confront one of the country’s most pressing public health challenges: cancer.

Cancer continues to exact a heavy toll on Filipino families. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show that cancer ranked among the top three causes of death in the Philippines during the first eight months of 2024. Meanwhile, Manulife’s Asia Care Survey reveals that cancer remains one of the most feared diseases among Filipinos—reflecting not only its health impact but also its profound financial and emotional consequences.

These fears are rooted in systemic barriers that persist across the healthcare system. Financial limitations and restricted access to screening services mean that many patients are diagnosed only at advanced stages of the disease, when treatment options are more complex, invasive, and costly. Geographic inequities further deepen the challenge, as Filipinos living outside Metro Manila often have fewer choices for timely diagnosis and specialized care. As a result, out-of-pocket expenses remain high, placing immense pressure on families already grappling with the realities of a cancer diagnosis.

Addressing these challenges head-on, Teodoro Herbosa, Secretary of the Department of Health, delivered a compelling message of change and hope. He emphasized that the country is moving away from viewing cancer as an inevitable financial catastrophe toward building a system that prioritizes preparedness, equity, and timely care under Universal Health Care and the government’s 8-Point Action Agenda.

The discussions during the GMM focused on key pillars essential to a stronger cancer care ecosystem. These included reinforcing prevention and awareness programs, expanding early detection through screening, leveraging digital health solutions to improve patient pathways, developing sustainable financing models, and scaling human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations alongside other proven interventions. Speakers also examined the Department of Health’s strategic priorities and highlighted how private sector partners can help bridge gaps in access and affordability.

Manulife’s participation reflected its growing focus on longevity, prevention, and financial protection. In 2025, the company launched its global Longevity Institute—a platform dedicated to research, innovation, advocacy, and partnerships—supported by a CA$350 million investment through 2030. Locally, Manulife Philippines has strengthened its efforts through partnerships with AC Health on cancer prevention and care initiatives, reinforcing its mission to help Filipinos prepare for the risks of critical illness. These efforts come amid sobering statistics showing that 41% of medical spending in the Philippines is paid out of pocket, while 33% of Filipinos feel their health insurance coverage is insufficient.

For Rahul Hora, President and Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Philippines, collaboration is key to transforming the cancer care landscape. By working closely with CanCham, fellow businesses, healthcare providers, and government partners, he stressed that a future is possible where Filipinos face a cancer diagnosis not with fear and financial uncertainty, but with access to care, protection, and hope.

With 119 years of service to Filipinos, Manulife Philippines continues to advocate for a whole-of-society approach—one that recognizes the patient journey as more than a medical experience. It encompasses awareness, early detection, access to treatment, financial security, emotional and psychological support, and continuity of care through survivorship.

Echoing this sentiment, Christopher Ilagan, President and CEO of CanCham, highlighted the organization’s role in mobilizing its network to align employers, insurers, and innovators around shared solutions. The collaboration between Canada and the Philippines, he noted, demonstrates a shared commitment to addressing one of the country’s most urgent healthcare needs—ensuring that no Filipino faces cancer alone, or unprepared.

From Efficiency to Impact: Long-Term Energy Efficiency at Scale

SM Prime began its energy efficiency journey as early as the 1990s, long before sustainability became an industry-wide requirement. Over the years, the company has deployed wide-scale upgrades, including:

LED lighting retrofits and optimized illumination systems
High-efficiency air-conditioning and ventilation systems (ACVS)
Advanced Building Management Systems (BMS) for smarter energy use
Operational optimizations across all malls and offices

These long-term investments have delivered significant results. In 2024 alone, SM Supermalls achieved:

38% reduction in electricity consumption
156,736 metric tons of avoided greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
₱2.3 billion in electricity savings

SM Prime's strong performance in energy efficiency was recognized at the 5th Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards of the Department of Energy (DOE), where SM Supermalls, SM Offices, and SM Hotels each received multiple Certificates of Excellence. These achievements highlight a collective effort across engineering teams, tenants, service providers, and millions of customers—powered by the company’s commitment to the SM Green Movement.

Renewable Energy Milestones: Scaling Solar, Powering Communities

As part of its aspiration to achieve Net Zero by 2040, SM Prime continues to make clean energy accessible and scalable across its developments.

A historic milestone was recently achieved at SM City North Edsa, where SM Prime celebrated 100 megawatts (MW) of combined on-site renewable energy generation across 59 properties—one of the largest solar power capacities among Philippine property developers.

Photo caption: A historic 100MW milestone. SM North Edsa—the first Philippine mall to install a rooftop solar photovoltaic system—continues to push forward SM Prime’s clean energy and community-focused sustainability mission.

Leading local solar developers

SM Prime has also committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in partnership with WWF-Philippines, aligning its climate targets with global standards for carbon reduction.

High ceilings and wide atriums
Skylights and clerestory windows for natural illumination
Open and shaded spaces for passive cooling

These design principles reduce daytime energy use while enhancing customer experience by creating bright, airy, and inviting environments ideal for dining, shopping, and leisure.

Complementing these passive design features are innovative smart technologies such as:

Motion-sensor escalators

Cyberzone Made E-Waste Disposal Easy: 14,000+ kg Collected Through Strategic Drop-off Points

Cyberzone continues to champion responsible technology consumption by making e-waste disposal simple, accessible, and part of everyday mall habits. Through its strategic partnership with SM Cares, Smart Communications, and PLDT Home, Cyberzone has built a nationwide system of E-Waste Collection Drop-Off Points located inside SM Supermalls—giving Filipinos an easy, reliable way to dispose of old gadgets and broken electronics safely.

This initiative directly supports Cyberzone’s #TechWeLikeZoneWeLove commitment: to guide communities toward smarter, safer, and more sustainable tech practices. By bringing e-waste solutions to where people already shop, dine, and spend time, Cyberzone ensures that sustainability becomes a normal part of the tech experience.

Making Good Habits Convenient for All

Launched in June 2024, the program rolled out dedicated e-waste collection bins across participating SM Supermalls nationwide. These drop-off points are positioned in highly visible and accessible mall areas—69 of which are located within or near Cyberzone—ensuring convenience for shoppers who want to do the right thing but often don’t know how or where to start.

With electronics being replaced faster than ever, e-waste has become one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams. Many households have drawers full of unused chargers, broken phones, outdated routers, and damaged accessories that eventually end up in landfills when not properly disposed of. Cyberzone’s initiative addresses this growing concern by turning responsible disposal into an easy and familiar mall routine.

14,327 kg of E-Waste Properly Collected and Handled

Since the start of the partnership, Cyberzone’s E-Waste Collection Drop Boxes have gathered an impressive 14,327 kilograms of electronic waste across 89 SM Supermalls. These materials were properly collected, segregated, and channeled toward appropriate handling and recycling processes.

The achievement reflects the growing awareness and participation of mallgoers who now recognize the importance of e-waste responsibility. It also shows how accessible solutions—clear drop-off points, consistent placement, and mall-wide visibility—empower communities to make environmentally sound decisions.

Through this system, old tech is prevented from ending up in landfills, where harmful substances like lead, mercury, and cadmium can contaminate soil and water. Instead, disposed electronics are directed toward processes that recover valuable materials, reduce environmental harm, and encourage a circular economy.

A Shared Commitment to Planet-Friendly Tech Practices

“We take pride in being the go-to tech destination for shoppers,” shared Patrick Pacla, Vice President for Cyberzone Operations and Marketing at SM Supermalls. “But as gadgets evolve, so does the need to dispose of old electronics responsibly. Everyone has a role to play, and Cyberzone is committed to making it simpler and safer to do the right thing, so tech does not end up harming the planet.”

Cyberzone’s ongoing collaboration with SM Cares and its telco partners reinforces the program’s goal of long-term scalability. As new SM malls open and Cyberzone branches expand, more e-waste collection bins will be added—bringing the initiative closer to building an #SMWasteFreeFuture.

What Happens to Your Old Gadgets After Drop-Off?

Many shoppers wonder about the journey of their discarded devices. Cyberzone provides transparency through an educational video that shows the step-by-step process of e-waste handling, from drop-off to responsible disposal.

Sustainability That Moves With the Future of Tech

Cyberzone and SM Cares are committed to evolving sustainability efforts alongside rapid technological change. By offering practical solutions to modern waste problems, the partnership empowers communities to adopt better habits while shaping a more responsible tech ecosystem for the next generation.

SM Prime’s Green Movement maximizes scalable sustainability through SM Supermalls

The SM Green Movement, SM Prime Holdings Inc.’s flagship sustainability initiative, continues to demonstrate how strategic, collective action can address environmental challenges at scale. Since its launch, the program has united communities, partners, and millions of mallgoers toward one mission: to protect and preserve the planet’s resources for present and future generations.

Long before sustainability became an industry requirement, SM Prime understood that lasting environmental impact can only be achieved through consistent, community-driven, and long-term programs. This foresight guided the development of sustainability initiatives designed to evolve alongside shifting stakeholder expectations, regulatory landscapes, and shareholder responsibilities.

Leveraging the national footprint of SM Supermalls, SM Prime embedded sustainability directly into mall operations—engaging customers, tenants, and local communities in everyday environmental action. This strategic “micro to macro” approach strengthens the SM Green Movement by building a unified, scalable framework centered on three core pillars: Waste Management, Water Stewardship, and Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy.

“What began as simple actions—reducing waste, conserving water, and embracing cleaner energy—has grown into an interconnected sustainability ecosystem involving partners, tenants, employees, and millions of Filipinos nationwide,” said Joaquin San Agustin, SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing. “By transforming everyday habits into measurable environmental results, the SM Green Movement brings sustainability into the heart of Filipino communities.”
Three Core Pillars of the SM Green Movement

1. Waste Management: Closing the Loop Through Circularity

At the heart of the program’s waste pillar is SM’s close collaboration with recycling partners and SM GUUN, the movement’s circularity platform. Together, they work to divert various materials—including paper, plastics, multi-layer packaging, and compostables—away from landfills.

By establishing recycling touchpoints throughout SM malls, the program empowers mallgoers to participate in disposal habits that reduce waste, promote circularity, and encourage mindful consumption. SM GUUN also pioneers accessible recycling solutions such as PET bottle collection, waste-buying kiosks, and easy drop-off systems.

2. Water Stewardship: Building a Water-Resilient Future

SM Prime’s water stewardship efforts are anchored in long-term systems and conservation practices developed over decades. SM Supermalls pioneered water recycling in retail environments, installing early sewage treatment plants (STPs) and adopting low-flow fixtures to reduce water consumption across properties.

These infrastructures strengthen resilience against water scarcity, reduce operational reliance on freshwater resources, and protect communities during climate-related disruptions.

3. Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: Powering Malls Sustainably

Energy management is another cornerstone of the SM Green Movement, focusing on efficiency and renewable energy adoption to minimize environmental impact. SM’s continuing expansion of solar rooftop installations—highlighted by the 100MWp milestone celebration at SM City North Edsa—demonstrates how clean energy can support climate action while enhancing mall comfort and reliability.

The widespread use of LED lighting, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and automated building management systems further reduces carbon footprint across SM properties.
Sustainability Through Shared Responsibility

What binds SM Prime’s three sustainability pillars is a fundamental principle: environmental progress is only possible when communities move together. For SM Supermalls, sustainability is not a corporate project but a shared journey built on awareness, participation, and consistency.

Through mall-based campaigns, recycling hubs, educational activations, and green partnerships, the SM Green Movement encourages Filipinos to make sustainability part of their daily lives—turning simple acts into collective impact.

With measurable progress across waste, water, and energy portfolios, and with strong collaborations with NGOs, government agencies, and private partners, the SM Green Movement continues to lay the groundwork for meaningful, lasting environmental change throughout the Philippines.

“The SM Green Movement reflects our vision to transform simple actions into systemic impact,” San Agustin added. “By advancing energy, water, and waste initiatives across our malls, we protect communities and help shape a more sustainable future for all.”

SM Supermalls expands its nationwide presence for Pickleball

Pickleball has officially found its home in SM Supermalls, solidifying the company’s leadership in fostering active lifestyles and accessible sports experiences for Filipinos. Through the SM Sports and Lifestyle Center (SLC), SM continues to grow the sport by expanding permanent pickleball court locations—including new sites at SM Center Shaw and SM Center Muntinlupa—providing athletes and enthusiasts more venues for both friendly and competitive play.

By the end of 2025, SM Supermalls recorded 61 pickleball court locations nationwide, with 37 permanent courts, the largest number among any mall operator in the Philippines. This expansion reinforces SM’s mission to support the growing pickleball community and deliver world-class sports facilities to customers of all ages and skill levels.

Empowering the Growing Pickleball Community in the Philippines

Through its launch of SM Active Hub, the country’s largest sports playground, SM Supermalls has energized the local pickleball movement. Embedded within SLC’s vision of revolutionizing sports engagement nationwide, SM Active Hub encourages tournament play, friendly gatherings, group exercise, and accessible sports learning for thousands of Filipinos.

“We launched SM Active Hub with a clear intention—to give athletes, enthusiasts, and even casual players high-quality and easily accessible spaces where they can enjoy sports, whether for lighthearted fun or high-adrenaline competition,” said Joaquin San Agustin, SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing. “Closing 2025 with our largest number of pickleball court locations while adding new permanent courts in SM Center Shaw and SM Center Muntinlupa shows that sports has become not just a hobby, but a lifestyle for our customers.”

The newly opened pickleball facilities—developed in partnership with Paloo—feature three outdoor permanent courts at SM Center Shaw and four indoor permanent courts at SM Center Muntinlupa. Both locations are designed with high-quality flooring, proper dimensions, and affordable rates to welcome both seasoned picklers and first-time players.

The Home of Elevated and Accessible Sports Experiences

Through SM Active Hub, picklers nationwide have gained a dynamic environment where they can pursue fitness, community, and active living. Its modular court system allows SM to maximize sports spaces in malls, ensuring more areas are available for customers who want to play.

With the integration of the SM Malls Online App, users can seamlessly join sports communities, book courts, discover upcoming pickleball events, and access exclusive deals for sports-related activities and gear.

“Beyond permanent courts, we also have 24 semi-permanent courts across the country, ensuring that we can accommodate growing demand for the sport,” San Agustin added.

The rapid rise of SM courts—growing from 44 courts to 61 by end-2025—reflects how pickleball has become one of the Philippines’ most inclusive and fast-growing sports. With courts fully booked across many malls, SM is preparing to increase its total pickleball courts to nearly 80 by 2026.

“Pickleball is inclusive and easy to learn, which is why it has captured the interest of families, seniors, beginners, and competitive athletes alike. We’re embracing this opportunity to support active lifestyles nationwide,” San Agustin shared.

A Favorite Destination for Maxed-Out Pickleball Events

Active Hub continues to host some of the country’s most exciting pickleball events—from friendly gatherings to major competitions. Creative concepts such as the Glow Ball Pickleball Night give players a unique glow-in-the-dark sports experience, while free Pickleball Clinics help newcomers, kids, and families learn the game.

SM Active Hub is also home to the flagship SM Pickleball Super Series in partnership with Toby’s Sports, alongside multiple local tournaments and community events across the country.

In 2025, SM launched the Pickleball Power Tour featuring Filipino-American world-ranked pro-athlete Lauren Mercado, igniting aspiring players to pursue the sport. Due to its massive success, a second edition will take place within the first half of 2026.

“All these events reflect SM’s commitment to shaping the most creative, inclusive, and community-driven sports experiences in the Philippines. As long as Filipinos seek connection, fitness, and fun, SM will continue to give that passion a home,” said San Agustin.
