Building from the Ground Up: Monde Nissin Launches 5 Farmer Cooperatives Across the Philippines

In a landmark effort to empower Filipino farmers and revitalize rural economies, Monde Nissin Corporation has launched five farmer-led agricultural cooperatives spanning Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This initiative, part of its 45th anniversary celebration through the 45@45 Sari-Sari Store Enablement Program, reinforces the company’s commitment to inclusive growth, food sustainability, and community upliftment.

The 45@45 program is rooted in Monde Nissin’s philosophy of “Making Better Possible”, focusing not only on business innovation but also on long-term impact in the communities it serves. Through this initiative, the company directly supports and sources raw materials from local farming communities. The five cooperatives—centered around cacao in South Cotabato, sugar in Bago City (Negros Occidental), garlic in Bacarra (Ilocos Norte), shallots in Nansuagao (Ilocos Sur), and eggs in Davao City—function not just as raw material suppliers but also as grassroots distribution centers that strengthen local economies.

What sets this program apart is its ground-up approach to development. Rather than simply providing aid, Monde Nissin collaborates with farmers to create sustainable, income-generating ecosystems. Each cooperative is equipped and trained to manage its own sari-sari store, transforming local producers into active market participants. These stores serve as distribution hubs, helping improve logistics and market accessibility in areas where transportation and commercial infrastructure are limited.

For farmers like Mency Tolentino, Chairperson of the Bacarra Zanjera Irrigators Multipurpose Cooperative in Ilocos Norte, the program has brought tangible benefits. “Malaki ang naitulong ng programang ito para sa mga farmers tulad namin, sapagkat nabigyan kami ng karagdagang kabuhayan. Maraming salamat sa Monde Nissin,” she said.
(This program has been a great help to us farmers, as it’s given us additional livelihood. Much thanks to Monde Nissin.)

Likewise, in Bago City, Negros Occidental, the dream of establishing a community-run store became a reality. “Tinupad ng Monde Nissin ang matagal na naming pangarap na magkaroon ng malaking tindahan dito sa Bago. Hindi na kailangang lumayo ng aming mga farmer sapagkat kami na mismo ang magiging distributor ng mga produkto dito sa aming sakahan, dagdag pa dito ang dagdag income para sa aming mga farmer,” said Noel Benjamin, Chairman of the Hacienderos Agrarian Reform Cooperative.
(Monde Nissin has helped fulfill our long-standing dream of having a large store here in Bago. Now, since we’re distributing our farms’ own products, we no longer have to travel too far, and we even get additional income.)

The program goes beyond economic empowerment; it also strengthens the country’s agricultural backbone. By enhancing market access and creating new revenue channels, the cooperatives allow farmers to maximize the value of their produce while contributing to national food security.

According to Atty. Olive Misa, Corporate and Government Affairs Head of Monde Nissin, “The point of this program is to uplift Filipino farmers and strengthen the foundations of our food system. We’re proud to celebrate our 45 years of serving Filipino families by investing in their future.”

In a time when many rural communities struggle with limited resources, unstable incomes, and barriers to market participation, Monde Nissin’s 45@45 initiative offers a forward-looking model of corporate social responsibility. It demonstrates that meaningful partnerships between the private sector and local producers can create lasting change.

As Monde Nissin moves forward in its journey of purpose-driven growth, the 45@45 Sari-Sari Store Enablement Program serves as a blueprint for how corporations can reimagine their role—not just as profit-driven entities, but as key players in nation-building and inclusive development. Through this initiative, the company has not only honored its legacy but also sown the seeds for a more resilient and equitable future, one cooperative and one community at a time.
