In a powerful demonstration of corporate social responsibility and community-driven partnership, McDonald’s Philippines and the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Philippines, alongside the Megawide Foundation, officially celebrated the reopening of the newly refurbished Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center in Barangay Mambog IV, Bacoor City. This milestone marks a renewed, shared commitment to early childhood care, education, and sustainable community development.
A 15-Year Legacy of Nurturing Young Minds
The reopening is a deeply meaningful milestone, coincides with the learning center’s 15th year of dedicated service to the children and families of Bacoor. Originally turned over to the local community on June 10, 2011, the facility has served as a cornerstone of early education in the area. For a decade and a half, it has helped successive generations of young Filipino learners build a resilient educational foundation within a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.
By upgrading the physical structure, the partner organizations ensure that the center can continue to meet the evolving needs of the community, offering a modern space where children can transition smoothly into formal schooling.
Driving Impact Through Strong Strategic Alliances
The extensive refurbishment of the Bacoor facility was made possible through the generous support and expertise of Megawide Construction and the Megawide Foundation. This initiative represents a significant milestone for Megawide, marking the foundation’s very first renovation project for a Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center.
The collaboration underscores a mutual vision between RMHC and Megawide: to design, build, and maintain spaces that are not only structurally sound but also highly conducive to early childhood development.
"For the past 15 years, this center has helped provide young learners with a strong foundation for their educational journey," said Kenneth S. Yang, President of RMHC Philippines. "As we reopen its doors, we are renewing our commitment to ensuring that future generations of children have access to safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environments."
The Power of the Bahay Bulilit Program
To date, RMHC Philippines has established a robust network of 56 Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers nationwide. Each center plays a critical role in local communities, serving approximately 90 to 100 children every year.
| Bahay Bulilit Program At A Glance | |
| Total Centers Nationwide | 56 facilities |
| Annual Impact Per Center | 90 to 100 young learners |
| Core Focus Areas | Foundational literacy, social integration, and cognitive development |
Looking ahead, this impactful network is poised for further growth. Moving beyond this initial renovation project, the Megawide Foundation has officially committed to partnering with McDonald’s Philippines and RMHC to build entirely new Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers starting in 2027.
Shared Visions for Community Transformation
The success of the program relies heavily on the shared philosophy that infrastructure and education go hand in hand to elevate marginalized communities.
"We believe that quality learning environments are essential to shaping a child's future," explained Teresa C. Saavedra, President of Megawide Foundation. "We create spaces where children can learn and develop, knowing that every opportunity for their growth helps build brighter communities."
Local government units (LGUs) also play an indispensable role in ensuring the day-to-day success and sustainability of these centers. Expressing his gratitude, Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla highlighted how critical public-private partnerships are in bridging educational gaps:
"Naniniwala tayo na ang kinabukasan ng kabataan ay nakasalalay sa edukasyon. Maraming salamat sa McDonald's at Megawide Foundation sa inyong suporta. Malaking tulong ito sa ating mga kabataan at sa kanilang kinabukasan."
(We believe that the future of our youth depends on education. Thank you very much to McDonald's and Megawide Foundation for your support. This is a massive help to our youth and their future.)
A Foundation for Lifelong Learning
The benefits of the Bahay Bulilit Learning Center extend far beyond standard classroom instruction. The facility serves as a holistic development hub where young children learn vital foundational literacy, social communication, and essential life skills. These early interventions are proven to build the emotional and cognitive resilience required for lifelong learning and future academic success.
As public and private sectors look for scalable solutions to uplift grassroots communities, the successful reopening of the Bacoor Bahay Bulilit Learning Center stands as a shining testament to what can be achieved. When the private sector, non-profit organizations, and local government units align their goals, they create a lasting, positive trajectory for the next generation of Filipino children.
