Exclusive! The Achy Breaky Hearts press con with Jodi Sta Maria and Ian Veneracion

Last June 16, 2016, I was able to cover the press launch of the latest movie offering from Star Cinema, The Achy Break Hearts, starring Jodi Sta Maria (Chinggay), Ian Veneracion (Ryan) and Richard Yap (Frank). Only Jodi and Ian were present because Richard has prior engagements but I heard a separate press launch for Jodi and Richard is also happening over the weekend.

Straight from their taping somewhere from the north, they went to 9501 Restaurant in ABS-CBN ELJ Bldg to entertain an interview from the press. The launch was intimate, only few press people and media friends were invited. The timing was also perfect because Jodi is celebrating her 34th birthday on that day.

Jodi came some minutes earlier than Ian, she immediately sat in the presidential table where the press is waiting for her. Everyone's asking where's Ian, then suddenly, he came out from the crowd holding a birthday cake for Jodi. The first question that popped out from the crowd was about Ian's gift for the birthday girl. Ian gave Jodi a painting that he painted 2 years ago because he wants something that came from the heart. He called it Moonlight Over Jerusalem.

Here are some of the questions asked by the press during the exclusive interview:

Jodi on being friends with Ian
"Sa kanya, walang masamang tinapay, madali syang pakisamahan, madali syang pakibagayan, lahat ng tao makakasundo nya. Hindi perpekto ang aming friendship, kahit di kami nagkakasundo, merong respeto sa isa't isa kaya hindi kami nag-aaway..." (No stale bread for him, he is easy to be with, he gets along with others. Our friendship is not perfect, at times we disagree but we respect each other that's why we don't fight.)

 

How are the fans reacting between the competitions of the two love teams - JodIan and JoChard
"Yes the fans have biases kasi may kanya-kanya silang manok (they have their own bets), but I do understand the fans and I respect their choice, but I hope it won't result to bashing, it's better to support each other; don't be too emotional, be objective, trabaho pa din ito at the end of the day, it's not reality," said Jodi.

"It is between Ryan and Frank, it's not between me and Richard," said Ian "but sometimes fans really take it too personal, which result to bashing..."

Jodi on being bashed, " Yes I do, but I just don't respond to rudeness..."

Torn between two lovers
Jodi said "I never experienced being sandwiched between two lovers, that's why I enjoyed my role as Chinggay."

Ian was asked if he has been in a competition with other guy to win the heart of the woman "if ever there is, I won...," (drew laugh from the audience) he replied.

Ian talks about the positive side of the movie
"It talks about culture, right time for marriage or to have a relationship. It tells us not to cling on to someone to complete you, you have to find someone to complement you..."

About the Movie

Achy Breaky Hearts is about Chinggay, a smart, beautiful, and successful woman in her 30s who's had not a boyfriend for seven years until Frank, Chinggay's ex-boyfriend for four years and Ryan, who Chinggay helped after his engagement proposal got rejected, entered her heart. The two gentlemen will try to win Chinggay's heart, while Chinggay being torn between them. Who will she choose and how will she choose the better man?

Directed by Antoinette Jadaone, "The Achy Breaky Hearts" will hit theaters nationwide on June 29!
