A Sea of Blue and a Future of Hope: 2026 ASP Angels Walk Shatters Records Across Southeast Asia

On April 26, 2026, the Philippines didn't just walk; it soared. In a breathtaking display of solidarity, the Autism Society Philippines (ASP), in a long-standing partnership with SM Cares, mobilized an unprecedented 47,500 advocates for the annual ASP Angels Walk for Autism. This record-shattering turnout officially cements the event as the largest gathering of advocates for people on the spectrum in Southeast Asia, marking a historic milestone in the journey toward a more inclusive society.

From a Walk to a Movement: Scaling Impact Nationwide

What began nearly two decades ago as a modest gathering has evolved into a nationwide phenomenon. This year, the advocacy transcended the walls of the SM Mall of Asia Arena, activating simultaneously across 12 key locations in the Philippines. From the highlands of SM City Baguio to the coastal stretches of SM Seaside City Cebu and the bustling hubs of SM City Davao and SM City Iloilo, the message was clear: inclusion knows no boundaries.

Other participating sites included SM City Bacolod, SM City Butuan, SM City Lipa, SM City Lucena, SM City Olongapo Central, SM City Tuguegarao, and Virac Town Plaza. This synchronized effort ensured that families from every corner of the archipelago could participate in a celebration of dignity, hope, and belonging.

"Aumbitious. Aarangkada. Aangat."

This year’s theme—"Aumbitious. Aarangkada. Aangat."—served as a rallying cry to move beyond mere awareness. It challenged the community to turn conversations into "transformative inclusivity."

“ASP Angels Walk reminds us that inclusion is about creating space, and more importantly, making people feel that they truly belong,” said Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls. “At SM, we are honored to walk united with the autism community. This commitment is about empowering communities until every person is seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.”

Turning Advocacy into Action

The 2026 walk wasn't just a parade; it was a showcase of tangible progress. To ensure the safety and comfort of all participants, the SM Mall of Asia Arena team underwent specialized "Barrier-Free Tourism Kaya Natin" training by the Department of Tourism. This initiative reflects a deep-seated commitment to making public spaces truly "Autism-OK."

The event also shone a spotlight on those leading the charge:

  • The Hans T. Sy Leadership Award for Autism Inclusion and Welfare: Awarded to Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte for her steadfast leadership in implementing programs that support the neurodivergent community.

  • ASP Autism Works Partner of the Year: Awarded to SM Book Nook, recognizing how inclusive community spaces can create vital opportunities for learning and engagement.

A Legacy of Inclusion

The partnership between ASP and SM Cares is built on the vision of an Autism-OK Philippines. For SM, being a "Mall for All" means more than just physical accessibility; it means fostering an environment of acceptance, accommodation, and appreciation.

As the sea of blue shirts filled the arenas and malls across the country, the 2026 Angels Walk proved that the Philippines is no longer just dreaming of inclusion—it is actively building it. Through collaborative advocacy and a shared heart for the community, SM Cares and ASP continue to ensure that in the march toward progress, no one is left behind.
