Digital literacy is an individual's ability to find, evaluate, and compose clear information through writing and other mediums on various digital platforms. It is evaluated by an individual's grammar, composition, typing skills and ability to produce writings, images, audio and designs using technology. Digital literacy does not replace traditional forms of literacy, instead, building upon the skills that form the foundation of traditional forms of literacy.
Computer literacy is part of digital literacy
Digital literacy is one component of being a digital citizen - a person who is responsible for how they utilize technology to interact with the world around them. It allows people to interact and communicate with family and friends on a regular basis due to the "busy constraints" of today's world. Not only do white-collar jobs require digital literacy in the use of media to present, record and analyze data, but so do blue-collar jobs who are looking for a way to increase productivity and analyze market trends, along with increased job safety.
Digital literacy is, therefore, an important aspect in the life of every Filipino nowadays.
The City Government of Manila, headed by Mayor Isko Moreno, believes in the importance of digital literacy and the power it can give to the people which is why they introduced the Digital Literacy For All Project, which gives every person the opportunity to learn the digital skills that will be relevant in their workplace and daily life.
