Pangasinan, fully prepared to showcase its stunning creations at its debut in Manila FAME

The province of Pangasinan, after a four-decade-long wait, is poised to showcase its abundance of artisan creations at international events, starting with Manila FAME. Under the ABOUND project, which identifies artisans and offers coaching and mentorship, the province has selected ten Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) known for delivering world-class "Made in Pangasinan" creativity. This project marks the first time these MSMEs are being brought together to participate in a prestigious trade exhibition.

With the full support of Pangasinan Governor Ramon V. Guico III, leaders from the province's towns of Binalonan and Bolinao, and local agencies, the Governor presented these ten MSMEs during the project's recent launch. These MSMEs were chosen for their exceptional and export-quality artistry, producing everything from luxurious fashion pieces and tropical-inspired home furnishings to creative products highlighting the province's rich heritage and agricultural bounty.

Manila FAME, the Philippines' premier trade show, is making its long-awaited return on-site at the World Trade Center from October 19-21, 2023, after a three-year hiatus. This return also marks the participation of the province of Pangasinan, a remarkable event considering it's their first in four decades.

Governor Guico emphasizes the role of MSMEs in fostering inclusive economic growth within the province. Their participation in events like Manila FAME not only promotes the diverse creative industries but also accelerates trade and exportation, contributing to economic development. He believes that these MSMEs represent the epitome of "Made in Pangasinan" and embody the essence of the province's motto, "Pangasinan, Ang Galing."

Among the featured artisans, Herwin Buccat, also known as Herwitanyo, from Bolinao, is a painter renowned for his surrealist and nature-fantasy-inspired artwork. With the guidance of the ABOUND Team, his artwork has been translated into various art merchandise, including notebooks, tumblers, and apparel.

Hailing from Pozorrubio, Blades is known for producing swords featured in Hollywood films. The ABOUND project has helped transform these collector's items into high-quality chef knives and fashionable accessories.

Erastus from Sto. Tomas is a furniture maker who has been guided by Project ABOUND to create modernized designs that rejuvenate home and office spaces.

ILO, based in Laoac, produces home accessories from locally sourced materials. Through the project, they have expanded their designs using industrial materials, making them suitable for the luxury market.

WELAB (Women Empowerment Livelihood Association of Binalonan) has transitioned from producing ordinary recycled market bags to crafting upcycled handbags considered as a signature collection.

Alma from Pozorrubio specializes in ethnic droplights. Their products, after consistent collaboration and material research, are now characterized by rustic elegance.

Rach, based in Aguilar, is a maker of bamboo bags. With regular design and product development guidance, their fashion accessories have evolved into chic crystal-embellished bags.

Cawayan, from Bolinao, utilizes buri to create bags and mat products. The ABOUND team has helped them create inspired, signature bags.

Joy, based in Basista, uses corn husks and bangkuang for home accessories and fashion bags. The project has transformed their designs from a natural look to a classic luxury aesthetic.

The youngest among these MSMEs, B6 (Blessed 6), has developed seven collections of espadrilles with the support of Mayor Ramon Ronald V. Guico IV. These espadrilles will be launched in both domestic and international markets.

Pangasinan's participation in Manila FAME was made possible through the Artisan Empowerment Association (AEA), which aims to uplift MSMEs in Pangasinan, particularly those specializing in handcrafted creations. This initiative was conceived by esteemed businesswoman and Chair of the Board of the World Citi Group, Arlyn Guico, and industry expert, entrepreneur, and CEO of luxury brand Mele + Marie, Rosemarie Oamil. They aim to showcase the untapped potential of the province and provide opportunities for its artisans to reach a broader market.

Ms. Guico notes that the Artisan Empowerment Association equips budding designers and entrepreneurs with capacity-building resources and opportunities such as mentorship and training programs, enabling them to uplift their lives and communities. Rosemarie Oamil emphasizes their vision to help Pangasinan-based artisans reach their highest potential through quality assurance and business development.

Witness the extraordinary creations of these top Pangasinan MSMEs up close at Manila FAME, which takes place from October 19-21, 2023, at the World Trade Center.
