Celebrating 21 Years of Compassion: CHILD Haus and the Tears of Joy

The SM Mall of Asia Music Hall hosted the 21st-anniversary celebration of CHILD Haus, an institution established by 'Mader' Ricky Reyes as a sanctuary for children battling cancer. The Sy family has been a consistent major supporter of the organization, with Henry 'Tatang' Sy, Sr., in its early years and SM Prime Holdings Inc. Chairman of the Executive Committee Hans Sy continuing the legacy set by his father.

Mr. Sy and 'Mader' Ricky led the event, which welcomed various individuals and companies that have contributed to CHILD Haus over the years. Numerous children, who now consider CHILD Haus their home, also attended the celebration. Media representatives were present, acknowledging the profound impact of establishments like CHILD Haus as the answered prayers for many children and their families.

Three video vignettes spotlighted CHILD Haus stories, featuring Aya, Laura, and Jessa, emphasizing the message of hope and the organization's life-saving mission. The deeply moving nature of these stories left even seasoned press photographers visibly moved, underscoring the profound effect of the testimonials on the audience.

Following 'Mader' Ricky's heartfelt introduction, Mr. Sy himself graced the stage to present plaques of appreciation to the friends of CHILD Haus, whose generous donations have enabled the organization's life-saving endeavors.

CHILD Haus offers food and shelter to cancer patients and their 'adopted' families. Presently, there are two CHILD Haus locations: one in Manila, close to the Philippine General Hospital, and another in Quezon City. The organization accommodates one child and one parent until the child is declared cancer-free or completes their treatments and medical procedures. In cases involving infants, both parents are permitted to stay.

Longtime supporter Karylle, who frequently visits CHILD Haus, led the children in a spirited rendition of a song composed by her husband, Yael Yuzon. 'Mader' Ricky's daughter also sang a rendition of Florante's 'Handog,' adapted to resonate with the sentiments of the children at CHILD Haus. These performances were the children's way of expressing gratitude to the guests who have contributed to making the 'haus' a reality.

Ultimately, both 'Mader' Ricky and Mr. Sy acknowledged the significance of this event, marking 21 years of compassion, resilience, and the spirit of giving and sharing.
