The Philippines’ Biggest Playground: SM Supermalls Celebrates 1-Year of SM Active Hub

SM Supermalls recently marked a historic milestone, transforming its massive network into the country’s largest playground to celebrate the first anniversary of SM Active Hub. In a synchronized nationwide activation, malls from Luzon to Mindanao became the ultimate shared space for movement, connection, and high-octane fun.

Launched just a year ago, the SM Active Hub was designed with a bold vision: to redefine the mall experience. Moving beyond traditional shopping and dining, SM has successfully pioneered a "third space" where Filipinos can move, connect, and live life to the fullest. On April 11, 2026, this vision reached its peak with the “One Day, Every Mall, One Movement” event.

A Nationwide Movement: One Day, Every Mall

From sunrise to sunset, SM Supermalls hosted a diverse array of rallies, runs, and free-play sessions. While the main celebrations were anchored at SM Mall of Asia and SM North EDSA, the energy was felt nationwide.

  • SM City Clark: Families dived into high-energy activities, emphasizing the hub’s role in community bonding.

  • SM City Bicutan: Young athletes took the lead in a thrilling Push Bike Competition, proving that the movement starts at a young age.

  • SM City La Union: The heat of beach volleyball powered the momentum of the celebration.

  • SM City Laoag: Future football stars showcased their skills, highlighting SM’s commitment to grassroots sports.

Dominating the Sports Landscape: From Running to Pickleball

SM Active Hub has maximized mall footprints to make sports accessible to everyone. Whether you are a seasoned athlete or a first-time participant, the hub offers a professional-grade environment for various disciplines.

1. The Running Revolution

Running remains a core pillar of the SM Active Hub ecosystem. By 2026, SM has activated 24 malls with dedicated running paths, supported by 45 running clubs and 55 major events.

"What used to be a solo activity is now a social movement," notes the management.

Through a strategic partnership with Runrio, SM is leading the Philippine Marathon Majors, including the highly anticipated 42-kilometer EDSA Marathon on Independence Day.

2. The Pickleball Phenomenon

Pickleball has exploded in popularity, and SM is at the center of this growth. The platform now features 12 permanent and 13 semi-permanent pickleball courts. During the anniversary, SM North EDSA hosted the Toby’s Pickleball Superseries, while Canadian National Champion and PPA Tour athlete Mackonner Dy visited multiple malls (April 9–12) to inspire the next generation of players.

3. Fitness Racing and Team Sports

At SM Mall of Asia, athletes pushed their limits in high-intensity fitness racing. Meanwhile, courts at SM City Lipa and SM City Masinag saw intense action in basketball and taekwondo, proving that the Active Hub is a versatile arena for all forms of discipline and speed.

Free Play Weekend: Movement Without Barriers

The anniversary highlight was the “Free Play, Full Fun” weekend (April 11–12). By removing barriers to entry, SM invited families, barkadas, and walk-in mallgoers to try their hand at:

  • Court Sports: Pickleball, Basketball, Volleyball.

  • Combat & Discipline: Taekwondo, Karatedo, Karate.

  • Leisure & Fitness: Zumba, Dance Fitness, Chess, Table Tennis, Bowling.

  • Winter Sports: Ice Hockey and Figure Skating.

Digital Integration via SM Malls Online

To stay connected, the SM Malls Online app serves as the official digital companion for the Active Hub. Users can easily register for activities, view event schedules, and unlock exclusive rewards, making the fitness journey seamless and on-demand.

The Future of Movement at SM

The momentum doesn't stop with the anniversary. Throughout the summer, SM Supermalls will continue to host a full calendar of community tournaments, the Groove Dance Showdown, and Summer Sports Clinics.

As Joaquin San Agustin, Executive Vice President for Marketing at SM Supermalls, puts it:

“This is movement at scale. We design spaces where communities gather, stay active, and experience life to the max.”

By integrating wellness, retail, and social connection, SM Supermalls continues to evolve, ensuring that for Gen Z and Gen Alpha, staying active is always social, shareable, and fun.
