MNL Hiphop Festival 2018 to promote Filipino culture, arts, and environmentalism

The hip-hop music scene in the Philippines started in the 1980's. It appeared not just in English language or Tagalog but also in dialects such as Chavacano, Ilocano, and Cebuano as well. 1990's is the golden age of hip-hop in the country when it entered the mainstream with the Iconic Pinoy Rapper Francis M.

The rise of Philippine hip-hop scene happened in the millennium when Filipino hip-hop rivaled Pinoy rock's traditional popularity amongst Filipino youth. The popularity gave birth to the Philippine Hip-Hop Music Awards, which started in 2004 and held annually since then.

This 2018, a brand new scene is yet to unveil as the first hip-hop music festival in the Philippines happens on the 30th of November, 2018 at the Circuit Makati Concert Grounds.

MNL HipHop Festival 2018, the first & the grandest hiphhip-hoptival in the Philippines. From old school hiphop, underground HipHop to this generation’s hiphop culture, you can expect 30 local HipHop artists to join the inaugural music festival as a HipHop Nation. Expect 30 Local Artists, 3 DJ and 7 Side Activities in a 2-hectare events area catering up to 10,000 crowd. The gathering promotes Filipino culture, arts, and environmentalism through lyrical poetry.

Presentor ApoDrop Production decided to have this event because its channeling the youth to be more incline to music and expression as HipHop here in the Philippines isn’t just about genre and music selection, but more of a culture and a community of people with the same liking. You can anticipate that all the elements of HipHop will be experienced during the festival.

The media launch held at the Hi MNL Event Club featured the music video of the song Pisi by our very own artists Ron Henley & Kleb. Ron Henley, Kleb, Pino G, Baysa & R1ch, Poor Taste, and DJ Ash Wednesday also performed. The Song Pisi is about a relationship that used to be thriving and full of love until it wasn’t anymore. The relationship is deteriorating and full of doubts & misunderstandings. The ‘other one is getting tired from fighting . and the other one is losing interest for the relationship to work out. There might be problems entangled in every relationship, but for sure, there will always be one who wants to work things out and try to save whatever is left. This song is about someone who is on the brink of giving up or saving up. We all went through this — one-sided relationships.
