Recently, SM City Baguio, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology – Cordillera Administrative Region (DICT-CAR), hosted an inspiring interactive learning session centered on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The goal wasn't just to explain complex algorithms or emerging software; it was to build an inclusive bridge across generations, proving that learning truly knows no age limits.

For the younger participants, the workshop served as a playground for innovation. Far from treating AI as just another screen-time distraction, the session encouraged children to explore how smart technology can fuel their education, problem-solving, and creative pursuits.
Ten-year-old Jacob Jimenez, a Grade 5 student, was among the eager young minds raising hands and asking probing questions.
“I want to know more about AI because it is futuristic technology. I tried a game where you have to use AI, and I also made an app,” Jacob shared enthusiastically.
His mother, Joan Jimenez, expressed her deep gratitude for community-driven educational programs like this.
“I am very thankful kasi ino-open ng SM City Baguio ang mga ganitong opportunities para sa mga kids. I hope na mas marami pang ganitong programs,” she noted, highlighting how essential it is for children to develop digital literacy in a safe, guided environment.
Empowering Senior Citizens in the Digital Era
While kids approached AI with wide-eyed wonder, senior citizens brought a thoughtful eagerness to understand a world that often feels unfamiliar. For older adults, stepping into the realm of AI isn't just about fun—it's about independence, staying connected with loved ones, and protecting themselves online.
The DICT-CAR team provided practical insights tailored to everyday life, emphasizing digital safety, responsible AI usage, and how to spot online scams. Senior participant Cheryl Alquiza proudly received her certificate after completing the session, noting how empowering the experience was.
“We learned so much information... Sometimes, we are very vulnerable to scams,” Cheryl reflected, pointing out how crucial cyber-awareness is for older generations navigating today's web.
Tech as a Unifying Force: "AI for All Ages"
The defining magic of the day was seeing kids and seniors sitting side-by-side, sharing laughter, swapping perspectives, and demystifying technology together.
Engr. Katherine Aguilar from DICT-CAR summed up the event's spirit perfectly:
“From kids to seniors, it only goes to show na yung technology ay walang pinipiling edad. Very inclusive siya.”
When tech is taught with empathy and accessibility in mind, it ceases to be a barrier and becomes a shared language.
