A new way to stretch and straighten multiple hair types from wet, with no hot plates or heat damage, is here. Dyson has announced the launch of the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener, a groundbreaking product designed to simplify your hair care routine. This innovative device uses powerful, focused airflow to dry and straighten hair simultaneously from wet, achieving a natural straight style with a smooth, shiny finish quickly and efficiently.
Dyson's Airstrait™ straightener represents the company's commitment to improving everyday technology. Unlike traditional straighteners, the Airstrait™ does not use hot plates, eliminating the risk of heat damage while delivering high-quality results. Engineered for multiple hair types, this device allows users to achieve a natural straight style with body and movement, maintaining the strength and health of their hair.
"Having a strong understanding of how to manipulate and realize the potential of powerful airflow is fundamental to the performance of the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener. This expertise, which we’ve gained over the last 25 years, has enabled us to deliver our first wet-to-dry straightener with no hot plates and no heat damage. Delivering the ease-of-use that people love about straighteners but with high-velocity air blades saves time, maintains hair strength, and achieves an everyday natural straight style," said James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer.
Airflow and Precision Air Jets
The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener features two 1.5mm apertures along its arms, accelerating airflow to create high-velocity downward blades of air. These blades converge to form a focused jet, creating a controlled downward force that straightens hair as it dries. This directional airflow helps align hair strands, resulting in a smooth, shiny finish.
The Science Behind the Styling
Dyson has invested over half a billion GBP in researching the science of hair styling, studying everything from hair structure to airflow dynamics. By understanding thermal, mechanical, and chemical damage, Dyson's engineers have developed a method to style hair using powerful airflow, reducing the need for high heat. This approach minimizes frizz and flyaways while protecting natural shine.
When hair is wet, water weakens the hydrogen bonds within each strand, making them more elastic and easier to reset as they dry. By using controlled airflow and optimal heat levels, the Dyson Airstrait™ styles hair with less damage, maintaining volume and movement. Once the hair is dry and aligned, the bonds are reset, locking the new style in place.
Dyson Hyperdymium™ Motor
The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener is powered by the Hyperdymium™ motor, specifically engineered for Dyson's hair care technologies. This small, lightweight motor generates the airflow needed to dry and straighten wet hair simultaneously. A 13-blade impeller spins up to 106,000rpm, propelling over 11.9 liters of air per second and generating up to 3.5kPa of air pressure—enough to straighten hair as it dries. At just 27mm, the motor fits comfortably in the handle without sacrificing power.
Intelligent Heat Control
The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener includes an intelligent heat control feature. Glass bead thermistors measure the temperature of the airflow up to 16 times per second to prevent heat damage and protect hair’s natural shine. This data is sent to the microprocessor, which regulates the heating element to ensure the airflow does not exceed the required temperature.
Two Styling Modes and Temperature Control
The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener offers 'Wet' and 'Dry' styling modes, as well as a 'Cool' mode to set the style. The 'Wet' and 'Dry' modes come with pre-set heat and airflow combinations for optimal results. In 'Wet' mode, users can choose from three heat settings: 80°C, 110°C, and 140°C. In 'Dry' mode, the options are 120°C, 140°C, or a "boost" setting. For airflow control, there are two speed settings, low flow and high flow, as well as a cold shot and root drying mode.
Availability
The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener will be available in the Philippines on April 16, 2024, at dyson.ph and Dyson Demo Stores, with a recommended retail price of PHP 33,900.00. Pre-orders are now being accepted, allowing interested parties to secure their unit ahead of the launch.
